PaxLair Weekly News (Week of July 5th)

Mayor Addresses the Crowd

Mayor Addresses the Crowd

For now the third week in a row, the PaxLair meeting minutes and other news related to PaxLair news will be presented in this "Weekly News" format!

Minutes of the July 5th, 2004 PaxLair Weekly Meeting

This week PaxLair held a quiet, and short city meeting with a good majority of the council present.  It lasted a half hour, after which attendees made their way to the Red Wolf Cafe for the "Word Scramble Scavenger Hunt".  In attendance this week were Mayor Minsk, Lady Winmere, Lord Cross MacLeod, Blade McBain, Zog the Fishmonger, Lord Earl, Neo Of Lothlore, Grimlar Mithrax and Xavier.

Mayor Reviews the AT Ban After Two Weeks

Mayor Minsk led a discussion about the reasons for the banning of AT from the city, at tonight's meeting; around two weeks from the initial ban.  Several items were discussed, and the Mayor announced that the ban would stand.

Lord Cross to Lead Adventure Night

After a bit of protest by Paladin's leader, Cross Macleod about the repeated allowance of necromancers as Thursday quest leaders, Mayor Minsk declared that this Thursday's quest will be led by Lord Cross MacLeod of [PV].  Some say that we will quest in a dungeon, others say that the Gatekeeper may show up!  Who knows?

Blade McBain Gives Thanks to PaxLair: John McBain Quest

Lord Blade McBain thanked the citizens of PaxLair for their help in locating John McBain.  Word has it that John is healing, and should be returned sometime soon!

That wrapped up the PaxLair meeting for July 5th.  The team crossed over to Trammel shortly thereafter to attend the Red Wolf Cafe's Monday Night Event.

PaxLair Attends the Red Wolf Cafe's Clue Hunt

Since the PaxLair meeting ran a tad late, we arrived about ten minutes into Anton's Clue Hunt.  The hunt featured scrambled word clues that, when re-anagrammed, would turn into the name of a famous Britannian landmark: like the Entrance to Wind = Ceanrten ot Nidw.  Participants had to unscramble the clue as quick as possible, then recall to the location to score a point!  Koranos of KCR ended up winning, with Winmere and myself only holding a few points in the end.

Gatekeeper Quest: Dinner in a Dungeon

The Gatekeeper Inspects the Benches

The Gatekeeper Inspects the Benches

Once the Red Wolf Cafe's Event concluded on last Monday, July the 5th, the spirit known as the Gatekeeper appeared with news that a new 'underworld fissure' had opened in the Dungeon of Wrong!  Quickly the group at the Cafe got suited up, and waited for the Gatekeeper's instructions.  The spirit informed that in order to seal the fissure, it would be necessary to have dinner in the middle of the dungeon!  As crazy as it sounded, Cook John was called upon while others fetched benches for the dinner table, and dozens of sacks of flour.  Once all the requirements for departure were made, the Gatekeeper had us venture to his Gate on the northern shores, where he explained the full details of the quest: dinner would need to be prepared, and at least 6 people would need to sit and eat while one of us gave a speech!  Within no time Tancred RedStar of *V* was selected to be the speaker, and the party was ready to go!

Soon we had all entered Wrong, and the battle against the Juka began.  The Gatekeeper popped in periodically to point in the direction of the dining room, and after a bit of confusion we found the hall and cleared it of monsters.  Cook Jon then went to work preparing ribs, steak, soup, bread and truffles for the entire party over a tiny Jukan stove.

Meanwhile the battle raged against Juka Lords and hordes of golems that decided to mount an attack from the Southeast.  Through the efforts of the brave warriors of *V*, KCR, PaxLair and others, the monsters were all quickly quelled just in time for the dinner bell!

Dinner was then served, as the size of the fissure likely grew to its largest point that night.  Friends, companions and fellow warriors all passed around breads and cheeses and all sorts of delicious foods as Tancred RedStar gave a powerful speech at the head of the table:

The Feast in Wrong

The Feast in Wrong

We came together this eve; some of us as acquaintances, some total strangers.  We came together to answer a call to ensure the safety of the realm from the peril of the Fissures.  Many times before have we answered this call as we do now once again to preserve and protect what most people are blissfully unaware of, and that the Gatekeeper has mysteriously brought to our attention.  We fought our way through this horrid place raising our arms as one to push through and fight our way through the horde of Juka.  And now we sit together, before us a great feast prepared by Cook Jon.  So let us feast, and celebrate both our hard-won victory and the solemn assurance that the Fissures once again have been closed.  Eat up!

And in no time at all, through the power of good friends, good food and good company, the Gatekeeper witnessed the closing of the fissure and announced it from his seat!

The Keeper then took us back to his Gate at the Northern Shores and showed us the various rooms: the fountain from the Underworld that supplies water to the infamous Stream of Courage which flows through PaxLair, Aryslan, Lake Hammerfell in Haven and Mazrim's tower; a special 'underworld forge' which helpers crafted in a previous Gatekeeper quest; and the tower-entrance to the Underworld itself!

The quest then ended and everyone went on their own way, celebrating another success.  The Underworld Gate is located at 137o 43'N 51o 32'E in Trammel and is open for viewing to any and all.

John McBain Returned Safely to Dragon's Watch; New Mayor Named

John McBain Returns

John McBain, leader of Army of the Dragon, was returned safely on July 7th after being in the possession of The Dark One. The gruelling ordeal lasted a few weeks, and a reward of 1 million gold was even posted for information leading to the safe return of the chief figure in the Feluccan town of Dragon's Watch. Lord McBain was finally found by his friend Fairfax who, upon advice from Neo Of Lothore from PaxLair, took Lord McBain to Primus the High Priest of the Trinsic church. Primus was able to heal Lord McBain's injuries. Primus returned John to Dragons Watch with a full military escort. With the return of the Dark One, Lord John McBain has given over control of the city of Dragons Watch to Primus and his priest.

In these times of fear though, congratulations are still necessary to be given to Primus: new Mayor of Dragon's Watch!

That's it for the PaxLair Weekly News this week.  The format for meeting minutes is likely to resume next Monday, July the 12th.
