PAXLAIR - August 7, 1999 - Winfield
Since PaxLair was created by the founders well over a year
ago, PaxLair was destined to involve as many people as possible within the
town and the shard. I wish to continue to move this ideal forward with some
more specific opportunities that might interest various people. These
include at this time: information pages, buildings, and some positions on
the official staff in PaxLair.

forward them to other people in PaxLair to respond on my behalf.
FAQ:
I will be designing an FAQ on the web site as soon as possible to explain
the answers to common questions about shops, citizenship, vendors, houses,
groups and guilds, quest creation and participation, existence of NPKs and
PKs, use of the arena, dungeon crawls and adventure groups, submitting news
on things, RPing evil and good groups, PvP RPing, getting a new town started
in places on the shard, etc., etc. It would help me immensely if any of you
could email to me questions and also propose answers (if you wish). Just
preface your subject with "FAQ: .... " to alert me to the
topic. Please send to

TOWN BUILDINGS:
I am working on ideas for various public town buildings in PaxLair. These
are called "town buildings" or "founder buildings" and are
under direct control and ownership of the founders of PaxLair. My focus at
this time is on several buildings and will allow some fairly open
friendships in some, and less friendships due to the style of the building
and the lore being created in others.
If anyone is interested in participating in a particular building
I mention, please email me with your contact information and your ideas. I will first trust those I know or those that can be vouched for by
others on the shard, but I will try to open things up to those willing to
really dedicate some time and attention to these efforts. These efforts
involve a commitment for at least several months. First priority will of
course go to citizens and the frequent roleplaying patrons of PaxLair.
I do not wish to open my time and efforts, along with other people's time
and efforts, to any attempts to cause problems in PaxLair by creating personal (player) conflict or destroying trust. There really is
no room for that anymore and is an utter waste of time and energy. But I do
wish to open things for opportunities. People's track records in many cases
will be examined for their dedication to the RPing nature of the town.
Upon contacting me, things will take a little time to get things
set up for you. I ask your patience with this. Many times people
come to me with ideas for a shop or event, and after several hours of
discussions, they have drifted off. So what I propose here is only for those
willing to seriously dedicate their time and energy.
Some people may be asked to succeed in various things, such as becoming a citizen first, while others may be signed directly onto a
building based on their past relationships in PaxLair. There is no set path
to follow and all is up to the decisions of myself, founders, chancellors,
and designated shop proprietors of PaxLair.
Also, anyone interested in simply placing an NPC vendor in one of
these buildings need not contact me, but reach Duulket and the PaxLair
Marketplace. NPC vendors are not the style for RPing shops except
in those that deal in either large quantity of goods or specialized
materials. These shops are for roleplaying purposes.
The buildings include:
- Alchemist Shop -
This is the large brick shop west of the twin towers that was founded by
Sion Maguson. It contains a legacy of fine alchemical services and should
continue to do so. This shop is now undergoing an in-depth quest creation
and friendships will be limited to those involved in the quest creations. To
become involved is mainly by invitation only, but people may submit to me
their interest. The quest will involve the Balance quest of PaxLair.
- PaxLair Saloon/Tavern near the Arena -
Many more people can be friended to this facility in the town's spirit
for a neutral place to gather and associate. The tavern is also destined to
be a gateway between the player towns and establishments throughout the
shard. This will require some external work with those towns and with UOSSand UOC.
The tavern operators can plan events with the arena as well as handle
news about quests and stories. If you are interested in this, we can set up
various friending parties, but we will focus more on who we know from past
experiences at first. If people wish to create a newbie character to
participate, that is fine and encouraged. If problems come about as a result
of friending a lot of people to this establishment, we will have to review
actions of people or the entire concept of an open tavern to work with many
people.
I will be looking for several people to act as proprietors for the tavern
(ownership will not be transfered from the founder though) who can recommend
various people to be friended to the tavern. The tavern must have a sense of
roleplaying and neutrality/peace, as is the case for all public
establishments that are a direct part of the town.
- Tailors Shop east of the PaxLair Saloon -
This place is small, but can be a great benefit to the shard. I project
it could be the one-stop-shopping for all tailored ensembles of
attire, wedding rings, etc., be for weddings, barding, or adventuring. This
place could be highly publicized and web pages created explaining the types
of services provided. We look for tailors (newbie and veteran) who seek to
use their talents in ways beyond creating and selling goods. The tailors can
become part of a community where they are well known for their honesty and
expertise in supporting fashion shows, weddings, and other events. A single
NPC vendor could be used to sell complete sets of clothing to the customers
when tailors are not present. Revenue from the vendor needs to be put back
into the establishment to help all tailors within the shop.
- Carpenter shop -
This place is also small and near the tailors shop on the northeast side
of PaxLair. It is open to carpenters, young and old, who seek to craft
things for sale or even just experience. I seek to establish this place as a
one-stop-shopping for all craftables in the realm. This will take a variety
of carpenters with complementary skills. I seek someone to lead this shop in
this venue to organize and accept the carpenters. Much can be sold over the
counter as well as through bank accounts. Also, a single NPC vendor handled
by a dedicated proprietor can be set up to sell craftables and other
furniture. This is a great way for craftsmen to work together in confidence
and trust to bring to the shard another great shop.
OFFICIAL POSITIONS:
There are always more official positions available in PaxLair. These
positions are not given out freely to anyone who wishes them, and are
basically offered to citizens and regular patrons of PaxLair seeking to
involve themselves in more than just visiting or dwelling the town.
Positions open include:
- Heralds -
I wish to offer to the people on the shard an official tour
program of PaxLair on regular days each week if possible. The Heralds would have good knowledge of PaxLair history,
culture, events, vision, and management. Several Heralds are needed to help
show people around the facilities and explain the quests and shops.
Also, the Heralds are people who are like counselors,
but dedicated to helping people in PaxLair (no, the Heralds do not receive
any special robes, IGM items, or capabilities). Heralds come to the various
events and help explain PaxLair to newcomers. They might also be news
reporters for things happening in and around PaxLair.
- Event Coordinators -
At times I receive requests for people to hold large events in PaxLair
such as weddings, arena tournaments, caravan runs, and more. I need people
who can be a focal point to help folks run their events and get in contact
with people who can help with ideas or execution. This involves working with
questionnaires pertaining to different types of events, coordinating with a
number of people, and also working with people outside PaxLair when an event
involves much of the shard.
I am strongly focused on offering these opportunities to
those willing to dedicate time and commitment to an ever-expanding shard
community of fine people. There is much to do within the framework of
PaxLair and PaxLair has much to offer to the entire shard. The PaxLair
official staff is small, but our visions are great. We need more people to
create new and unique visions for the town and move PaxLair into continuing
stages of development. Your opportunities are here if you wish to reach out
and grasp them.
Sincerely,
