History of The Flame

A Wraith Ritual at the Fire MonumentExpecting this to be one of the "usual days", I awoke early, ran out the door of the PaxLair Inn, and began training my skill in magery on some fetid dread spiders in the Solen Caves!  Summoning many a fire elemental, I soon grew tired of trying to find bits of interesting armor and jewelry, and decided to take a walk in old Nujel'm.  While I was doing this however, a sacred member of the sky was grinning to himself as he used his arcane ways to repair the PaxLair Fire Monument, which is reported to be connected to both the underworld, and a giant well of oil, lodged hundreds of fathoms beneath the meadows of PaxLair.

Expecting this to be one of the "usual days", I awoke early, ran out the door of the PaxLair Inn, and began training my skill in magery on some fetid dread spiders in the Solen Caves!

The Fire Monument in Paxlair was never a natural part of the PaxLair landscape.  Legend has it, that the Monument rose out of the ground in a realm-shattering earthquake, on the same day the PaxLair Chaos tower was built!  Since its unholy arrival on our streets, it has been the centre of many dark experiments and rituals, one of which was performed long ago by a wraith necromancer named Uuban.  The wraiths were attempting to summon their dark father from the depths of lands unknown, but reportedly did not succeed.  They did however summon hordes of skeletons, wraiths, liches, spectres and various other undead creatures to the streets of Paxlair; most of which were promptly vanquished by warriors of order under the command of a Knight named Auldrek.  The Fire Monument was also seen as a nice garden and picnic ground for some of the "happier" folks who visited and lived in PaxLair!

The Disappearance of the Flame

The Flame is MissingThe Fire Monument has not always been a continuing site in the city, in fact in November of 2000, the Underworld decided to strike again in PaxLair!  On November 12th, 2000, the Armies of Mazrim attacked the City of PaxLair with groups of undead monsters, slaying many brave knights - and also putting out the flame at the Fire Monument!  It was reported also that Wixim the Mad was sighted at the Fire Monument, in the few weeks after the flame vanished!

Throughout the month of December, several citizens, including Duris Vaughn worked hard to investigate the disappearance of the flame.  They used clues from the nearby Spring of Courage, and also a report that the flame was fuelled by a large reserve of oil, laying deep beneath the soil of Paxlair.  However, no concrete information was gathered on the Monument, and thus a certain cause for its disappearance was not determined.  To this day we are still unsure whether or not it was the work of Mazrim, a fault in underground oil reserves, or mischief done by the Gods of Britannia.

The Fire Monument became just a monument for the next three years - until now!

Reigniting the Flame

The Newly-Repaired Fire MonumentAs I returned to my house today, after managing to not learn any new mage tricks, I promptly checked by mailbox only to find a note from the God, GM Carbon.  It read:

Dear Neo Of Lothlore,

...I have now replaced the flame back on top of the monument. Everything should look good now. Thank you for your patience, take care.

GM Carbon

After seeing only the word flame, I dropped the letter and rushed across town to the Fire Monument, to find a big, bright, glowing orange flame perched atop the stone pillar of the Monument!

This was indeed a great day for the City of PaxLair.... but, does this mean that Mazrim and his minions have returned?

Who knows!  We could always use a bit of fun anyway!
