The Orcs are building an Execution hall in PaxGlacei right in front of the Hall of Justice.   I asked the Builder of the building what is was used for and bag' Rot replied, "Clompie humies! Hoowah!"

The trial of PaxLair vs. Justine De Fargo

Last Night was an eventful evening in PaxGlacei for Justice.  The trial for PaxLair vs. Justine De Fargo got under way with Mayor, Judge Winfield presiding. The Prosecuting Attorney for the case is Neo of Lothlore and the Defending Attorney is Wulfgar Bach.

Defendant Justine De Fargo was quiet and trembling as she sat on the right side of the courtroom with her lawyer.  Miss De Fargo didn't utter a single word through the entire evening, allowing her lawyer to speak for her.  This in itself is an amazing accomplishment for the normally exuberant girl.

Oda Nobunga announced Judge Winfield's entrance which was followed by the scraping of chairs as everyone rose at once. Judge Winfield immediately began by reading off the official charges against Miss De Fargo. 

2 counts of Grand Larceny
1 count of assault with a blunt object
1 count of resisting arrest
1 count of fleeing the scene of a crime
1 count of attempted murder!

After reading the charges, the judge asked, "Defense, how does your defendant plead?"

Wulfgar Bach replied, "Not guilty your honor on the charge of attempted murder and we plead guilty to the other charges as per agreement with the prosecution your honour"

Judge Winfield then asked, "Prosecution, you have something to say?"

Prosecutor, Neo Of Lothlore approached the bench and stated, "My lord, we the prosecution have agreed with the defense to drop the charges of Resisting arrest, Assault and Fleeing the scene of a crime, so long as the defendant pleads guilty to the charges of larceny."

Judge Winfield asked, "Have you worked out this agreement before coming to me?"

"We have." Neo Of Lothlore replied.

At this point there seemed to be some confusion in the court as Chief Constable Sherlock Holmes tried to get the judges attention for some specific  evidence in the case. Once the confusion was settled, the Prosecution continued with another part of the plea bargain with, "Your honor, we'd like bail set for one million gold."

Judge Winfield replied, "Bail is set for 1 Million."

Prosecutor, Neo of Lothlore began with his opening statement, "We the people of PaxLair have charged Justine de Fargo with 2 counts of grand larceny relating to a stolen samurai helm that evidence suggests was sold illegally at a Paxratoku Auction two weeks ere as well as a stolen set of books that were taken from Lord Jasper's office and sold. As well, we have evidence and eyewitness testimony to suggest that Elijah Cross was assaulted with intent to kill. The other charges, according to our plea agreement, fleeing scene, resisting arrest, and assault have been dropped. Because of Lady De Fargo's pleading guilty to the two charges of larceny."

Judge Winfield then asked the Defense, "Your opening statement please."

Thank you your honor, began Bach as he removed his glasses with flair, "Ladies and gentlemen of the court.  My client Justine de Fargo many of you know her quite well", as he motioned to Justine.  "While she may indeed have done some questionable things I will prove that she is not the kind of person who would try to take another's life. Now through prior arrangement with he government of Pax and my esteemed colleague Mr. Lothlore you will not have to hear all the notions and accusations of such things. Miss de Fargo in fact cares greatly for the well being of Elijah Cross and others. And at the time of these issues was not in her right frame of mind. We will prove her innocence on attempted murder. Thank you your honour"

When Judge Winfield asked for the Prosecution to continue with the case, Neo of Lothlore asked for a continuance.  The Judge adjourned court until Tuesday night. 

Miss De Fargo paid the million gold bail and was released from custody for the time being.  Judge Winfield warned Miss De Fargo to return to court or her charges would be doubled at his whim.

Drunk Librarian is charged with entering man's room without his permission.

After a brief Recess, Judge Winfield returned for a short peoples Court. Sherlock Holmes called the Defendant and Plaintiff forward, "Tatania and Xavier please rise."

The Constable then explained the complaint to the judge, "Xavier is accusing Tatania of entering his room without his permission."

Xavier Reed seemed confused, replying with, "I am....?? Oh...heh."

Sherlock Holmes continued, "Xavier is suing for the amount of 200,000 gold, for invasion of privacy"

A fight almost broke out here between the Plaintiff and Defendant as Tatania Karthina  was heard yelling, "That is Robbery!"  her voice almost being drowned out by Xavier Reed's cries of "Is that all...  bah! That's not even fair! It was unjust!"

Constable Holmes broke up the would be scrapping in the court with his order of, "Both of you please sit!"

Judge Winfield took control of the court with, "Very well, Xavier accusing Tatania of entering his room without permission. Xavier, tell me what happened.

Judge Winfield then asked both, "Were you drunk the past night?"

Tatania Karthina answered, "yes Sir...  I'm afraid I had a few too many ales the night before."

Xavier Reed answered, "Me...nay!" as witnesses saw him crossing his fingers behind his back.

Judge Winfield then asked, "Where were you Xavier the previous night? Did you meet Tatania?"

Xavier Reed replied, "Erm.....that I cannot recall...."

Judge Winfield inquired, "Why can you not recall? Are you a forgetful person?"

Xavier answered the Judge, "Erm.... aye....that is it... forgetful....heh Aye! but I was not drunk....erm..."

Judge Winfield spoke to the defendant, "Tatania, how did you end up in Xavier's room? Were you there?"

"Did you bring testimony from those two?", Judge Winfield asked.

"no your honor", she replied.

Judge Winfield asked, "Xavier, is her room next to yours?"

Xavier exclaimed, "aye! It is clearly marked your honor..... She could not mistake her room for mine!"

Judge Winfield then looked to the librarian and asked, "Tatania, do you get drunk often?"

Scandalized, she replied, "no your honor!"

Xavier grinned wickedly and exclaimed, "I object!"

Court got a bit wild at this point with objections and frames and the testing of evidence.  Witnesses saw Xavier plant then pulled a bottle of ale from Tatania's bag which was tested and found to be Xavier's ale.  Judge Winfield then tested the ale and declared it to be a good vintage.

Judge Winfield was finally ready for his ruling, "Well, I see no evidence to not believe Tatania. And I don't see any evidence to not trust Xavier, except the bottle of ale. Therefore I set warrants for the inquisition of Elijah and Miss Kayi who may have caused this problem to occur, so they may be questioned. If they are found guilty, they may pay the 200K fine to Xavier. So for this case, I dismiss it.  Bring the Elijah and Miss Kayi vs Xavier case to me when you can."

Winfield declared, "Court is adjourned..."

Constable Sherlock Holmes bellowed, "ALL RISE!!!!!"

The last anyone saw of the bottle of ale that was evidence, Judge Winfield was drinking it on the way to Community night.
