Hail my friends,

PaxLair moves into its Ninth Year today.

Yesterday was the 8th Anniversary Celebration and what a Celebration it was!  Fireworks, Parade, Speeches, Awards, and a Play about PaxLair's history!  I wish to thank all who helped make the Anniversary a great success.  I want to thank even more those who have lived in, traveled through, or sat in a pub in one of our cities of PaxLair.

I will remain as Mayor of PaxLair into the coming year.  I am honored by the support of the citizens. I vow to continue the visions of the original PaxLair founders and commit myself to serving our current and future citizenry.

As I look back on the past years, emotion swells up in my heart and mind.

There are so many memories of people, creativity, lore, and legends.  I have seen how people can go three steps farther in this Realm with simple ambitions to [roleplay].  The plays, orc parties, meetings, quests, libraries, books, and of course the people.  People, whether evil or good, can bring our experience in the Realm well beyond simply seeking an item, fighting a monster or person, or even crafting a well decorated house.

So say "Hail" to the passing fisherman or beggar.  You never know when you might find yourself on a creative quest of knowledge, fame, glory, or disaster.  And you might just cherish that encounter for years to come.

-*- 8th Anniversary Recap -*-

Mayor Winfield opened PaxLair's 8th Anniversary with a Fight Night Tournament in PaxLair City.  Eight fighters dueled for more than an hour to determine the Champion.  After a grueling 5-minute final match between Merton (FwAe) and Morpheus ({X}), Merton came out victorious!

Sat, 14 Jan 06:
Orc Holiday for those members of the Kaar Barashalu and Olag Hai Orc Clans!  Orc Holiday is an officially recognized special day in the City of PaxLair by means of a Mayor's decree.

The Holiday began many moons ago in the year 2000 when digging began at the ruins near the Order Tower in PaxLair by a human named Caliphate.  Much to his expectations and the glee of the orcs, Caliphate found an ancient Orc Temple buried several feet below the meadow of PaxLair and also located several artifacts that are to this day on display at the PaxLair Memorial House.

Sun, 15 Jan 06:

Amidst a flury of combat in PaxLair City, Nightly Wood of PaxO captured PaxLair during a two hour combat event.  Nightly Wood will receive 2M Gold from Mayor Winfield at the PaxLair 8th Anniversary Ceremonies on Thursday, January 19, at 9 PM ET in PaxOku.

The capture times were:

Nightly Wood (PaxO): 1:04
Calliope, Oak Tobark (LuT): 0:49
Klug da Stu Maker, Te'kug (Orc): 0:43
Faith and others (!C!): 0:01

Several celebrity spectators were seen in the area too, including Viceroy of Yew (UO Radio).

Mon, 16 Jan 06:
- Grand Opening of Port Baldmor
Many gathered for a cup o' Ale, stories and a song!  Mayor Winfield surprised all present by singing to everyone a story!

Later, everyone piled out of the tavern and made their way to the shoreline to watch the Mayor walk the plank of one of the Pirate Ships!

- The PaxLair Meeting in PaxOku, Tokuno at the City Hall was a festive affair with cheers and fireworks filling the air on more than one occasion!

Tues, 17 Jan 06:
- PaxLair Theatrical Company Presents:

The Opening Night of "History of the Spring" performed in PaxOku.
 
The reviews are starting to come in about the Opening of "History of the Spring", a play held tonight in PaxOku for the 8th Anniversary of PaxLair.  Indications are that it was a smashing success!  People were on their feet after the play and had the actors sign their Programs.

Lenora (PxL) wrote and directed the play held atop the Post Office in PaxOku to a crowd of more than 15 people.

Neo of Lothore, Jaer Steelrein and Tatania Karthina starred in the smash hit!

A Cast party followed the play at the Blue Light Tavern.

Weds, 18 Jan 06:

- Adventure - The Great Hunt
A group of 10 went to Ilshenar this evening to battle 2 Paragon Ancient Wyrms.  Each participant recieved a commerative 8th Anniversary Heartwood rarewood chest.

- Community Night in Skara Brae Community Center was crowded this week.  Besides the normal announcements,  Mayor Winfield treated the crowd to a one man "theatrical production".

- The PaxOku Fireworks went off with a bang tonight as many gathered to celebrate PaxLair's 8th Anniversary!

Thurs, 19 Jan 06:
- Parade through many areas of Sosaria included cities, cemetaries and dungeons! A Large crowd gathered to begin the parade amist shouts of Happy Birthday PaxLair and Happy Anniversary!  Many joined the parade along the way!

- PaxLair 8th Anniversary Ceremony and Speeches were in PaxOku.  Many attended, listening to Mayor Winfield from the north side of the Tea House as the Mayor stood on the center "balance".

- The crowd gathered at the Post Office in PaxOku after the Parade for an Encore performance of "The Spring of Courage" by the newly formed PaxLair Theatre Company.

- Monk's Crossing (by Samuel Gestalt) was the winning entry og the name the main road in PaxOku contest.  following was the entrants description of the winning entry: "The Monks of PaxOku are crazy!  They are always running through your house and trying to drive you crazy.  And they always run across the road!  One day of these days when they're Crossing, they're going to get hit by a horse!!"

- The Quest of Knowledge is extended for one week

- Original Members of the Band were recognised and honored during the Awards Ceremonies.  Mayor Winfield, Winmere and Sibelius are the three left from the Band.

- Lord Monk was Knighted by Mayor Winfield during the awards ceremonies.  Following are the Mayor's words for this occasion:

"Lord of the Knights Monk has been a devoted Knight of PaxLair for many many years.  By the authority vested in me as the Mayor of PaxLair and before all these witnesses here today I knight you Lord Monk as "The True Knight of PaxLair" And for your service, I honor you with a new chest for your belongings. The chest of the 8th Anniversary of PaxLair."

Justine De Fargo, niece of Lord Jasper De Fargo was missing several days before information was sent on her.  A Legally binding contract was sent to Mayor Winfield, Lord Jasper and the PaxLair Times showing clearly that Justine is to be Orin Lightenburg's slave for a period of three months. 

Orin refused to answer any questions and Justine is still unavailable for comment.

Viceroy Gareth spent all day Thursday building the "Blue Light Tavern Playhouse and Stage" in PaxOku with lots of "help" and suggestions from curious onlookers.  The playhouse is located between the Blue Light Tavern and the Tea House.  We're looking forward to many productions in the playhouse!

The Virtue of Justice
Justice is the devotion to truth, tempered by love.

Players will be able to pursue the Virtue of Justice by killing murderers (red-hued player-characters).

Virtuous Ability:
The reward for following the path of this Virtue is the ability to protect the innocent, and through such protection comes a greater benefit.

Whenever a character that you’re protecting receives a "scroll of power" as a reward for killing a Champion of Evil (the "boss monster" from a dynamic spawn area), you, as their protector, will also have a chance to receive an exact copy of that same scroll of power.

Each step gained in Justice will increase your chance of receiving a scroll in this manner.

First step: 60% chance
Second step: 80% chance
Third step: 100% chance

Virtuous Title:
First step: Seeker of Justice
Second step: Follower of Justice
Third step: Knight of Justice
