 Meanwhile, while they were doing their discussion, John Duke valiantly saved three different families from their burning homes, and slayed two yamadons threatening the nearby residents of Tokuno, he is a true hero.

The meeting starts at 8:30 Eastern, but show early and be regailed by Gerath's charm as he or his staff man's the bar before and possibly after the meeting!

Event Moderator Winfield and the Winmere Sandals of Enlightenment

PAXLAIR, FELUCCA - April 01, 2005 (April Fool's Day!) - Winfield, Mayor of PaxLair is fortunate today to make the claim that he has been hired by the Gods of Britannia!  Winfield, one of the oldest and wisest mages on Chesapeake will be granted powers of the Event Moderators (EM's) and will become Chesapeake's newest EM, replacing Myrina Heron (aka EM Celestria).  The gods were apparently impressed with his leadership (and success) at the Britain Defense and decided to give EM Celestria her pink slip.  I spoke with Event Moderator Winfield earlier this morning and he informed me about some sweeping changes that will be coming to PaxLair and Britannia:

"...yes.  First of all, sadly I will no longer have much time to pay attention to PaxLair, and because the city will have a hard time finding a better leader, I believe it is most safe to demolish at least one of the twin towers.  Someone will surely come along in the spirit of the old times and place a house at that locale, so this is definitely not the end of PaxLair my friends, just a bit of an upheaval."

Rumor has it that Event Moderator Winfield also has some influence with the Dev Team now that he's a paid staffer of (EA).  Winfield also stated that:

"I'm in talks with Wilki and Oaks at EA and we've settled on a decision to change the property Faster Casting from a magery modifier into a fishing modifier."

EM Winfield clarified this statement saying that Faster Casting would now spawn on fishing rods and would allow the EM, in his spare time to cast his lure faster into the water at the East Brit Pond (near the EM's office, naturally), and thus catch more fish that he could pawn off to the locals to buy Quest Props so that he could put reputable quest-runners like Lord Gareth and The Gatekeeper out of business on Chesapeake!

In what appears to be the most shocking of the new changes coming with the introduction of Event Moderator Winfield, he announced that his sidekick Winmere would play the role of the EM's sandals of enlightenment.  Winfield was apparently greatly impressed with her acquirement of that Staff of the Magi, and decided to turn her into a pair of beach-sneakers... ahem... well crafted sandals.  The new shoes will have the power to turn Trammel into a PvP zone at any given time.  There's even word that EM Winfield has been talking with Serik and Ed McManus of !C! and Ransom and Hyper of BiC about raiding all of the trammy banksitters once WBB goes back to Britain!!

All hail Winfield, God of the Gods!  Congratulations on your new job.  May the torture begin.  *puts on shackles and ties Eli and John Duke together so that they may be trampled by the sandals*

The Weekly Fight Night hosted by the Chesapeake Fight Club was held in PaxLair with 10 contestants testing their abilities!

The rules of the fights are anything goes, aside from precasting and no pets allowed with a time limit of three minutes. Points are awarded for bringing your opponent down to a certain level of health, with the win either going to the kill or the most points accumulated in this 1v1 challenge.

There was an initial practice round to establish a bracket with an overall victory to Apple Jacks of [BiC] who never suffered a loss. But all scores were eliminated as the competition entered the real tournament with a double elimination, meaning they have to lose twice to be eliminated, and the victories counting over toward the end of the month tournament.

BRITAIN, TRAMMEL 

A massive defense of Britain is planned for Wednesday, March 9, 2005, 9PM EST against the constant onslaught of monsters led by their Generals.  All of Chesapeake are encouraged to join in the defense!  Preparations will start at 8PM EST at the Chamber of Virtues just across the main bridge into East Britain.

Panica started a massive defensive idea with the call "WE CAN DRIVE THEM NASTY BUNCH OUT OF OUR MAIN TOWN" on the UO Stratics Forum (link here).  And then, Panica helped lead the Defense of Britain on March 2nd. (link here).

Now also, to help us Sosarians, Tancred Redstar consulted Lissa Eldi (GM of the Fellowship of Virtue *V*) and also called for this defense.  We, citizens of Sosaria, should immediately step up to the challenge!

I, Winfield, Mayor of PaxLair, performed a dangerous reconnaissance of the areas in and around Britain.  It was no easy task to see where the enemy is assembled.  I provide a simple map of the most dense areas where the attackers are located on Britain, Trammel.  Of course, the enemy will move around once people start attacking them.  I did this reconnaissance on a holy day when many were not defending Britain.  So, the enemy might move a bit when we strive to fight them back on Wednesday.

We have some strategies to work against the enemy in a cooperative manner.  *V* has proposed to start at the main gate in Central Britain just south of the main enemy area occupying Northern Britain.  We will need other guilds and defenders to organize to combat the western part of Northern Britain near the Castle and try to pinch the enemy.  Taking over the Theatre in the center is a good plan and place where we can further assemble.

Obviously in the outlying areas to the northwest, there are massive gatherings of enemy forces.  Several houses are constantly under siege and must be defended.  If anyone knows the home owners there, they might offer a good place of protection and assembly during the defense of their neighborhood. Many guilds and defender groups are needed to work against this northern invasion.

Today the Fellowship of Virtue[*V*] observes it's birthday in the lands of Sosaria. Entering it's 4th year of life, the Fellowship has always stood for friendship, camraderie, fun and the 8 Virtues. Over the years, as with the lands of the realm, it has had it's up's and down's, victories and defeats, friends and enemies. Through it all, it's core values have remained the same and will continue to do so in the ages yet to come. The guild member's party is scheduled for Thursday.

It was decided on beforehand that the Orcs would get the Necromancer tower and the Fellowship would take the Paladin tower, both guilds warred, and the matchup for the first side to 20 deaths began!

The battle began with a stalemate on the tower roofs, and neither side looked like it would budge, until brave Tancred RedStar jumped over to the necromancer tower and nearly got clomped.  Then the Orcs beat the Fellowship back into their own tower, and chased them all the way down to the rez room, where some of the Orcs got a bit mouthy, and were quickly taken down by Jon and his axe.

Sara vanished quickly, but left behind her pet serpent, the "Seeker of Energy" which followed the citizens and wrapped itself around Gareth and Winfield before being killed by Sir Monk.

The decision was then made by Gareth to move the energy which PaxLair had been storing secretly at the Alchemy Vault, but as soon as everyone arrived to collect the chest, Sara appeared and demanded that the door be opened and the energy turned over.  John Duke and others tried to distract Sara with words, but she grew into a rage and threatened to destroy the door herself.  Then Sarberius of KTL appeared from the shadows and in a quick move, killed Sara (for the 15th time)!!

ORC FORT, PAXLAIR AREA, FELUCCA - A party of Winmere, King Gareth, Mayor Winfield, Neo of Lothlore, Monk, and John Duke went to see Lady Minsk at her house.  She was still bed-ridden from a strange illness having to do with a fungus.  The fungus came from the remains of the old Orc Tavern on the east side of PaxLair City.

In summary, the party ended up finding the Gatekeeper, gathered some items in PaxLair City, went to the Gate to the Underworld, and summoned the ghost of Gorbag the Orc, from the old Olag Hai Orc Clan!  They then went to the old Olag Hai Orc Fort on Felucca near PaxLair City.

The old orc Gorbag apparently may be able to reveal something about the strange fungus, but he could not help much tonight.  Gorbag told them to come back tomorrow and bring an orcish translator.

The two buildings — The Keepers of the Light Temple and Hank's Lookaround Cafe — were discovered with extensive damage to their exteriors late Sunday night.  The Cafe, on the west end of town near the Alchemy Shoppe suffered some damage to its floors, walls and roof, while the Temple, near the Town Hall, appears to have suffered total structural collapse.

As of this time, officials from the city have no idea how this was caused, however there is the possibility that Queen Sara may be involved.

A noticable guard presence has appeared in PaxLair since the destruction of these two buildings, however the guards were unable to provide any information to PaxLair News as to why they were in force, who they have been hired by or what they have been asked to guard. 

PAXLAIR CITY, FELUCCA - Last night, Lord Gareth, King of the Keepers of Light [KTL] found Mayor Winfield in his office in the Mage/Paladins Tower.  Neo Of Lothlore, Minister of Knowledge, and John Duke, Minister of Diplomacy, also arrived.  This was a great ocassion to learn more about the Keepers of Light.  Keepers of Light recently moved into the PaxLair area.

Neo Of Lothlore led a discussion while Mayor Winfield and John Duke listened on.  Neo, being of great knowledge, was able to converse quite fluently with King Gareth. 

Lady Sarberius, also of the Keepers of Light, met with Mayor Winfield earlier at the Arena Tower and told him to beware of "Queen Sara" who had turn to darkness.

It is believed that perhaps she inhaled spores from the rubble of the burnt-down Orc Tavern as she had been assisting Cross MacLeod remove leftover wood and trash from site.

A sample of mold has been collected from the site, and hopefully one of Chesapeake's Healers or Alchemists can determine if this is what is causing the illness.

Lady Minsk continues to have trouble breathing, and is coughing up blood from what appears to be a physical illness of the lungs.

Paxlair.com user login problems that occured on February 5, 2005, appear to be resolved and logins are working properly.  The problems existed on the paxlair.com web site login only, NOT the PaxLair Forum (two separate login systems). 

However, at least one person recently reported additional problems where he logged in, was returned to the main menu that still showed the login form, and his name DID appear in the Who's Online list.  If this occurs to you, clear your cookies (at least those for www.paxlair.com) and possibly your cache and try again. This may not help though.  Also, an administrator may have to "manually force" the user to logoff to enable a proper login once more.  If this happens to you, post on the PaxLair OOC or Welcome Forum.

Since about 1PM ET, Saturday, February 5, 2005, we are experiencing problems with User logins.  Most registered users are not able to successfully log in; the screen just bounces back to the initial screen with the login box.

We are working on the problem, and based on reviews of other similar sites, such problems can take days to resolve.

Guests and Registered Users (in guest mode) still have full access to all the portions of the site.  Authors just have difficulties editing articles (which require login).

Note: The PaxLair messageboard / Forum is NOT affected since it has a separate login system.

PAXLAIR CITY, FELUCCA - On February 22nd, the Kaar Barashalu Orc Clan will fight the Fellowship of Virtue in a match of Naked Paintball (Painball).

What's Naked Paintball you ask?

It's a classic team-based fighting game played between the PaxLair twin towers that uses the roof teleporter system.

The object of the game is for one team to whipe the other out, and steal (or force them to use up) all of their Resurrection scrolls.

PAXLAIR CITY, FELUCCA - Paladins Cross MacLeod and Victor Knightley stood proudly last night in front of a large firestorm set at the former Drunken Orc Tavern's location in PaxLair City, which the Paladins of Virtue [PV] guild had just acquired from a local deedholder. 

As ash and many-a-plume of smoke grew into the night air over the PaxLair meadow, and a group of onlookers from ATD gathered to watch the flames engulf the wood and plaster structure; several angry Orcs from the Kaar Barashalu appeared behind the two paladins and began shouting threats.

It's no secret that Paladins and Orcs rarely get along, and often times incidents such as the defiling of the Orc Temple Ruins lead to conflict between the two opposite guilds.  The Paladins also have a uncooperative history with the Followers of Armageddon Necromancer Guild led by Zog the Necromancer.

It is unclear if tonight's incident is the beginning of such trouble, or if it was just a single event to clear away an old structure utilizing a method of cleansing by holy fire.  The newly-purchased and now ruined building and corresponding plot is said to be the future location of a defensive guard post for the City of PaxLair.

MAYOR'S OFFICE, PALADINS TOWER, PAXLAIR CITY, FELUCCA - While Mayor Winfield, Eli, John Duke, and Noah gathered in the Mayor's office to discuss a few matters, The Gatekeeper suddenly appeared.  There was a strange mist around the entity as it began to speak.

"You Mayor Winfield, I am here for you," it said with a cold voice.  "You must come with me for a short while.  By nightfall, we will enter the Underworld together.  It may be perilous.  You must go because there is much you must learn."

"I know a lot already," Winfield replied.

"That is not enough," The Gatekeeper insisted.  "There are many other things you must learn in the Underworld."  It turned to the others.  "Your mayor will be gone for three days."

Then it soon vanished into thin air like it always does.

Mayor Winfield did not appear worse for the wear in this encounter, but he said he really did not want to miss his first PaxLair meeting as Mayor.  He told John Duke, the Minister of Diplomacy, to go ahead and run the meeting on his behalf.

What happens to Mayor Winfield in the Underworld is anyone's guess--even Winfield's guess.  Winfield traveled to the Underworld a long time ago with The Gatekeeper, but Winfield had to swear to never tell anyone specifics of what he saw.  When Winfield returns this time, maybe he can tell more.

DAEMON TEMPLE, FIRE ISLE, TRAMMEL - Benito, formerly of the Healers of Chesapeake guild [HLR], and an old friend of PaxLair, recently returned to the realm.  Ostakker, Benito and Winmere spent the evening adventuring in Tokuno.  At the end of the evening, Benito asked Winmere to mark a rune for him to the Daemon Temple on Fire Isle.  Winmere readily agreed and gated them both to the Temple.  Imagine their surprise when they arrived under the steps of the Temple!  "How did this happen?" they wondered.  They pounded on the walls and called for help, but no one came to their aid, and there was no way out. 

While under the steps, Benito inquired if they were in Trammel, to which Winmere replied yes.  Benito apologized for not making himself more clear, because he wanted a rune to the Temple in Felucca!   Oh well, Felucca was never this much fun!

PAXLAIR CITY, FELUCCA - John Duke, Minister of Diplomacy and nominee for Minister of Treasury, recently established the PaxLair Vault and Treasury in the old Alchemy Shoppe on the west side of PaxLair.  There, he already has a healthy supply of armour and food.  Several people from the local area drop off items for the Treasury that may be later given out to citizens and travelers.

Sir Duke plans to be in the Treasury at least one day a week, if not more.  As people travel through PaxLair City, they may find him in the building striking up conversations with patrons.  At times, there may be specific items being handed out or sold at low cost.  Some of the essentials are bandages and reagents along with armour and some weapons.

Since PaxLair can be a dangerous place, at least the Treasury can be a place for a little resupply to those who have fallen.

Oh, and be sure to ask John Duke about his 20-point plan for decreasing expenses and increasing revenue in PaxLair.  Pull up a stool and have a hearty ale while you contemplate his points, such as pigeon landing fees and no more fish stock placed in the Spring of Courage.  John Duke advised Mayor Winfield to just "catch and release" the fish.  The city already has enough fish steaks!

PAXLAIR CITY, FELUCCA - An old friend by the name of Ilishlaril came back to PaxLair this evening and met with Mayor Winfield and Chancellors John Duke, Eli and Neo Of Lothlore at his new home next to the Ladies of the Lair in PaxLair, Felucca. 

Ilishlaril is interested in arts, music and poetry and hopes to get involved with the Ladies of the Lair Tavern.  The Chancellors and Mayor gave him a tour of PaxLair and all of the outposts then offered the chance for PaxLair Citizenship by placing him on the PaxLair Initiates Stone [PxI] and friending him to the PaxLair Inn at the Tokuno Outpost.

PaxLair Celebrates 7 Years!
New Mayor Appointed, Events and Celebration All in One Night

PAXLAIR - Wednesday night the City of PaxLair held a celebration commemorating the end of its Seventh year on the Felucca Moon of Chesapeake!

The festival was attended by over sixty people some who participated in the tournament, net toss, tours, listened to speeches and were on hand to witness Mayor Minsk announce her retirement and appoint Lord Winfield as mayor once again!

The events began at 8:00pm EST on Wednesday the 26th of January, exactly 7 years and one week since the first building had been placed in PaxLair (19th Jan. 1998).  Event hosts John Duke and Winmere passed out food at the PaxLair Malas Orc Fort Outpost and welcomed guests from noteworthy guilds such as *V*, GOC and dozens of others from around Chesapeake.

The party moved upward to the Auditorium floor at 8:30pm and the introductory speeches were made by Mayor Minsk, followed by addresses spoken by former mayor's Don Martin and Winfield...

PAXLAIR CITY, FELUCCA - Construction workers chiseled and hammered overnight to prepare the North Arena for the PaxLair 7th Anniversary.  Reports indicate the arena is nearly complete and will be ready for its grand opening and first small tournament.

Arena Keeper, Scruffy Rumbelly, was hard at work and had this to say.  "You think I have time to talk? Oh, scribes... I thought you were just some villains trying to disrupt our construction.  Well, take a look!  We built the roof with as large an arena as possible... AND it can be used for Combat BagBall!  I don't make up the games, I just build the place."

Obviously the arena is a good design with an audience and judge area on the south side.  There is even a small box that allows the fighters into the arena separate from the audience.

"We want to keep the potential for mischief down to a minimum without having to keep everyone outside the tower during tournaments," the arena keeper went on.  "We tried solid walls to separate the audience, but then no one could hear the fighters.  So, we decided to just put in wooden walls and during tournaments restrict access to the arena floor itself.  I'm sure the guards will keep an eye on any unruly types in the audience."

The scribes then took a look at the first floor while Scruffy Rumbelly barked out orders to his construction workers ...

BRITAIN, FELUCCA — Late last night a few warriors from Britannia's towns of PaxLair, Silvervale, the Kaar Barashalu Orc Fort and the PaxLair Tokuno Outpost came together to fight the horde of ogre lords, lizardmen, earth elementals, titans, cyclopses and their generals in the city of Britain, Felucca.  The battle was rough, and through much death, resurrection and fighting, three Power weapon artifacts were recovered and several of the invading creatures were pushed away from the Bank and back beyond the city's centre gate.

Thanks to the brave help of Grimlar Mithrax, BigGate, Mythical, Henry Castley and Arig'lak for battling!

Britain is still under siege at this very moment, and will probably continue to be for some time unless a sufficient force of warriors can beat the army of The Three Tribes back into the hills of Despise.

PAXLAIR ANNIVERSARY POSTPONED UNTIL WEDNESDAY JANUARY 26TH

Due to the overwheming invasion by Ettins, Lizardmen, ratmen, ogre lords and others in the City of Britain, and the fact that many people could not enter the realm this evening, PaxLair has postponed the Anniversary until next Wednesday January the 26th.

Times of the events will be the same.
