-*-Words from our Mayor-*-

Hail my friends,

Oh my!  The Time Lord is coming!  I can sense his presence just around the corner or over the next hill.  Do you feel it too?

Why does he come and turn our hour-glass over every year?  Doesn't he know many of us don't want to be reminded we are getting older?  Especially me, and I'm already an old man.

PAXLAIR - December 29, 2005

Starting Friday December 30, 2005, "The PaxLair Times" will be delivered to any who wish to have it delivered. The Times comes out every Friday with a new edition. Every other Friday, I am pushed for time, so it might be as late as Saturday morning before your paper is delivered.

For the time being, there will be no charge for this delivery service. In the future, if demand gets to be so great that I have to enlist help in deliveries, a small charge might haVe to be added.

Please follow the directions below if you'd like the Times delivered to your
home or business.

1. Bring a marked rune to your place to the PaxOku Silent Rose Library.
[located in PaxOku... coordinates 96 4 north 62 0 west... Just take a moongate to Tokuno Islands and then choose Homare-Jima.. take the road NE and the library is the right side of the road, across from the Tea House. It's the last house on the right [east] side of the road.]

2. A Library "book drop box" is located just to the left of the front door. Inside you'll find gold engraved decorative boxes. Take one of the boxes and leave your rune in the Library Drop Box. This will be checked several times daily for runes.

3. On your front porch, please secure this box and then set the security to anyone. This will enable me to leave your paper or for others to leave you "mail". Just do not leave anything valuable in the box as anyone will have access to it.

Peace and Knowledge be with you,

PAXOKU AND ZENTO, TOKUNO - December 20, 2005

Tatania Karthinia is an embedded reporter during the Rebellion in PaxOku.  She sent this report in to the PaxLair news while crouched behind a crumbled wall on the outskirts of PaxOku.

Leaving the Library, I ventured through the city of PaxOku, mere minutes before a special defensive meeting called by Mayor Winfield of PaxLair.  I found the rebels sparring one another in front of the PaxOku City Hall. The rebels, secure in their holding of the city had much to say.  CryptKeeper commented, "there is nothing to report. we have taken over. no one will go against us. It is a sad day for Pax."

Spotting Valtos the Void,   a man who recently began to despair that there was not enough evil in the world,  I made my way through the rebels to question him. I asked Valtos if he was the reason for this unrest and his reply was, "I am not the reason. I am the solution. I sense little evil here. Only anarchy. The solution is evil though. The darkness will come when it is time."

PAXOKU, TOKUNO - December 20, 2005

Winfield, the Mayor of PaxLair and Acting Viceroy of PaxOku, made a statement earlier today about the unrest in PaxOku.

"We have an obligation to do all we can to preserve the neutrality of two more things in PaxOku.  These are the Silent Rose Library and our Librarian/News Reporter Tatania.  It is essential this place and source of journalism in PaxOku and the Realm be respected by the warring parties and raids.  Without objective news and readership of the situations unfolding, such situations will be lost without any documented evidence that such an uprising even occured.  It is important that we allow such scribes and reporters the abilities to report to the public what is happening."

FOR URGENT AND IMMEDIATE RELEASE!

PAXOKU, HOMARE-JIMA, TOKUNO - December 19, 2005

Mayor Winfield called an emergency session of the PaxLair Alliance tonight after a Rebellion in PaxOku attacked after the PaxLair meeting.  Rebels [PxR] have attacked citizens and alliance members in PaxOku.  Their demands are of an evil nature as they are 'displeased' with PaxLair and PaxOku leadership.

Paladin Cross MacLeod will be leading the defense, intelligence, and attacks if necessary against the Rebels.

PaxOku is the ONLY area threatened.  PxR [is a member of the alliance, and only those in that guild are the 'enemies'.  Meeting PxR in other cities outside PaxOku is NOT a combat environment.]  If one encounters a Rebel outside of PaxOku, or even in PaxOku, try to capture the person for more information.  Defend oneself if attacked upon [but attacks are not to be outside PaxOku; in PaxOku, attack with discretion; this is not a free-for-all.]

There are some bilaterally declared neutral areas in PaxOku, meaning no attacks.  These are the PaxOku Vendor House and the Auction House.

Mayor Winfield will meet once again with the PaxLair Alliance at 9 PM ET, Tuesday, Dec 20 in the PaxOku City Hall for updates on the situation.  Protection of the City Hall is paramount.

Also, Viceroy Gareth is known to be captured by the Rebels and Mayor Winfield has assumed the Viceroyship of PaxOku until Gareth's safe return.

Mayor Winfield met with the Mayor of Zento, who was under the impression that the PaxLair Army attacked Zento earlier tonight, when they captured Viceroy Gareth.  The Mayor of Zento immediately sent more than a thousand troops against PaxLair cities in retaliation. Once Mayor Winfield explained the situation with the Rebels, the Mayor of Zento recalled his armies.

More will be reported soon.

The owner, Tari Val'istar laid out Christmas trees, snowflakes, and presents throughout the Tavern.  All are welcome to the Lair for the fine ales, wines, food, story telling and much more.

The Lair is a unique building with a backyard garden reachable by a lever on the front porch.  More uniqueness is throughout the building.  It is located in the NW area of PaxLair next to the Stable House.

Recently, Lenora became a new proprietor of the Ladies of the Lair and holds the Lair open a few times a week.  Those times are published on the PaxLair SkyCalendar.

This in from Visago

House Ellindale is proud to host the Thursday Night Pax Alliance Expeditions. Each week we will be seeking adventure in different locations. All are welcome to join in the adventure. Listed here you will find this weeks event as well as tentative scheduling for up coming expeditions.

December 8th:
The Citadel. We will be having a safari into the dungeon to explore the mysteries there. Our goal is not to engage the peerless champion, but simply to have a look around and see what there is to be found. Prior to going into the dungeon, everyone will have to have started a quest from Sarakki the Notary in order to enter. We will be visiting the Notary prior to gating over to the dungeon to ensure everyone can enter.

The party will be gathering at the Skara Brae Community Center and leaving at 9pm est. The inhabitants of the Citadel are ninjas, assassins, thieves, and mages. The plan will be to travel to the various areas where the keys can be obtained. Again, the point is not to challenge the peerless, but to look around and see what it is like for those who have not yet been there. If we do happen to get all the keys while we are there, we will attempt to challenge the Travesty. If we do not get all keys, then we will walk away with the experience of exploring the place. Please also be aware that there are a great many traps in this dungeon which are rumored to cause a great deal of harm. So I strongly suggest everyone stick together and not run ahead.

If there is some place YOU would like to go, please feel free to post to this thread. If it is challenging enough for a group then it will be added to the schedule. I’ll see you in Skara Brae.

PALADINS KEEP, PAXLAIR EAST MEADOW, FELUCCA - November 8, 2005

Contributed by Jasper and Winfield

Elijah Cross, Defense Minister and Jasper De Fargo, High Paladin held an emergency meeting of the PaxLair Alliance to learn more about a new threat to PaxLair.  It is likely that a threat of a return from the Clan of Vampires to all of civilized Sosaria could disturb the balance between good and evil.  The meeting discussed how to keep PaxLair safe, what information was needed to evaluate the threat, and two end-states issued by Mayor Winfield if the CoV threat was real.

The Alliance members talked about PaxLair’s defense.  Jasper was very adamant about an all out war with the vampires, preaching darkness if the Alliance did not act fast enough.

Anyone interested in having their lvl 6 and 5 maps dug up are more then welcome to bring them. If there are no maps on hand then we will do a series of lvl 6 maps that I have.

Looting for the chests is simple. The owner of the map does the looting and gets first pick of the chest’s content. Guardians of the chest are fare game to anyone in the party, so be sure to search them all. Anything that the owner of the map does not want should be place some where that the other party members can see and look through.

We will be gathering at the Skara Brae Community Center in Trammel and heading out from there at 9pm est.

PAXLAIR - November 6, 2005

The arcane wizards and tinkers have been hard at work creating an invention that I hope will bring us closer together as a community. This invention will allow us to better speak to each other. For so long, we have been limited to waving our hands and making our words appear above our heads. Of course, we will always be able to talk that way, but now! .....

.... we are on the verge of a new discovery. A device is being tested and prepared for our PaxLair community and friends. It will allow us to actually speak to one another in a more natural way. The device testing has gone well, but so far is limited by the inventors to only working with a few people.

I had the inventors create ways for us to realistically talk to one another while we are in different places in PaxLair and its Cities, as well as in the Realm. As we move in the Realm, we can also naturally move through this magical device to speak with one another.

More information will come soon on the final designs of this magical invention [Ventrilo]. We all hope the powerful artifacts and energies channeled into it will be beneficial and not explode in our hands and faces.

PaxLane Established on Trammel - Part of PaxLair Print
2005 News

PaxLane located at 23-59S, 32-58W, Trammel

PAXLANE, TRAMMEL - October 30, 2005

Yes, it is called "PaxLane" -- a row of houses on Trammel just west of Gyldenfeld (Britain/Yew/Skara Brae Crossroad).  Three houses now make up PaxLane owned and operated by the Citizen and Alliance Guild of Mages of the Infinity (MoI).

PaxLane was born with the intent to create another outpost of PaxLair and opportunity for many people in the Trammel facet.  There are other successful establishments in Malas and Tokuno--the brilliant new town of PaxOku--and also revitalized interest in the Dragons Watch Outpost on Trammel.

For now, PaxLane only has a main street for the three buildings shown. The name PaxLane comes from this lineal arrangement of the neighbourhood.

The main purpose of the PaxLane is to create a friendly environment for meetings of adventurers, bards, storytellers and all citizens, alliance, and friends of PaxLair willing to gather during daylight times. Of course, the facilities are open to visitors 24/7, but MoI, the guild running PaxLane, usually gather during mornings and early afternoons according to Eastern Skies.

Mages of the Infinity is a guild of players from "Europe" playing in the Chesapeake shard.  There are currently 8 active people in the guild, and 2 new recruits on their way to Sosaria. However, the lag-beast hurts most of MoI, so they tend to dedicate to easy and relaxed hunting, crafting, chit-chatting, storytelling and living as ghosts for some minutes each day!  And, believe it or not, they are -not- all wizards.

The best times to find the Mages of the Infinity are 10:30 AM and 4-5 PM ET.  MoI is in the PaxLair Alliance so MoI will give a shout during these times hoping to meet more people of the PaxLair and Chesapeake Community.

Oh, PaxLane is now in the last stages of decoration for its Official Inauguration that will be held next Sunday, November 6, 2005 at 4:30 PM ET.  Everyone is welcome to the party!  PaxLane is located at 23-59S, 32-58W, Trammel.

The Mage/Paladins tower roof with the
Virtue Shrine tables - a last look

MAGE AND PALADINS TOWER, PAXLAIR, FELUCCA - October 29, 2005

Mayor Winfield announced today in a short press conference that the renowned Mage/Paladins Tower roof will be redesigned soon.

"PaxLair is always changing," Mayor Winfield said.  "There are new developments and we have to keep up with the times.  The Paladins of Virtue recently constructed a new tower in the East Meadow for their headquarters.  Therefore, it is appropriate for them to also move their Virtue Memorials there or another public location.  A lot of effort went into these Memorials and they should remain available for all to see and use."

PaxLair records show that the Virtue Memorials were constructed by Cross MacLeod, the former guildmaster of the Paladins of Virtue (PV).  He placed tables for each Virtue with a globe, book, symbols, and runes.

"I plan to keep the roof of the tower intact for a few days," Mayor Winfield continued, "so people can visit this wonderful display of Virtues one last time before the moving crew comes.  After the move, we will redesignate this tower again as the Mage Tower."

PaxLair's Mage Tower, one of the first placed in the meadow before PaxLair even became a town, is a Twin Tower of PaxLair.  It contains several enhanced features from the gods of olden days, which include teleporters between the  Twin Towers and a special moongate.

to people of PaxLair

SILENT ROSE LIBRARY, S. OF TRINSIC, TRAMMEL - October 28, 2005

PaxLair people received a fantastic tour of the Silent Rose Library Friday night after the weekly Fight Night tournament.  Prioprietor Tanania Karthina welcomed Mayor Winfield, Minister Ilishlaril (quests), Viceroy Gareth (PaxOku), Judge Brixan Judico (Fight Nights), Minister Elijah Cross (Defense and Paladins of Virtue), Jasper (Citizen), and Winmere (Lady of the Spring).

Tatania explained she has collected many books for years and is now putting them on display.  Some of the books are from when shard was young and can not be obtained anymore.  There are sets of very rare collections.  Others are books written by people in the Realm.

The Silent Rose Library is open to the public and always able to receive more books for cataloging and display.  Tatania went on to explain how she is meeting other Librarians throughout the land and and Winfield commented that perhaps a "ring" may be formed between those libraries.

The people of PaxLair saw the main entrance, library hall, a uniquely furnished bedroom and privy, and the garden roof.

The coordinates of the Silent Rose Library are: 132-58S 29-48E on Trammel, Chesapeake.

Friday Fight Night tournament underway

NORTH ARENA TOWER, PAXLAIR, FELUCCA - October 28, 2005

Judge Brixan Judico re-opened the weekly Friday Fight Nights in PaxLair with Sarberius [Pax] as champion and Zion [BDC] taking second place.  With many spectators and eight fighters, Brixan led the fights with precision and fairness.

"There was blood everywhere!  The fighters just slashed away at each other and burnt their opponents to a crisp," one person in the audience said after the fight.  "I've seen combat before, but wow!  Those mages really know how to make a fighter feel all warm inside!"

There were melee fighters, mages, and archers using many tactics tonight to bring down their opponent.  Some fights lasted the full three minutes where Judge Brixan had to make a ruling by points; others lasted only a few seconds ending in death.

The final round of Sarberius against Zion took the full five minutes allowed for that round.  Sarberius won by points and was crowned current Champion of the new Friday Fight Nights.

At the end of the tournament, two teams of two people played Combat Bagball in an exhibition event for 15 minutes.  This was the first real bagball match in PaxLair where nearly anything goes to get the ball into the team's goal.  Again, a very bloody and crispy affair.

PaxLair Friday Fight Nights occur weekly in PaxLair, Felucca.  The Arena Tower is private where audience and fighters are allowed in for the evening.  Mayor Winfield said in an interview after the fight that, "there are strict rules regarding disruption.  The fights are conducted in the spirit of fairness and respect in our neutral city."

PAXLAIR, FELUCCA - October 22, 2005

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Mayor Winfield announced today that Friday Fight Nights will return to PaxLair, Felucca on Friday, October 28, 2005 at 9 PM ET.  A new judge named Brixan Judico will host and judge the fights for PaxLair.  Fights will be in the North Arena Tower in PaxLair, Felucca.

"We've gone quite a few months without our Friday Fight Nights since the closure of the Chesapeake Fight Club run by Blue Collar," Winfield said in a statement to the press.  "With our new judge Brixan Judico, I'm confident we will once again have quality fight nights in the tradition of the CFC and the neutrality of PaxLair."

The now disbanded Chesapeake Fight Club (CFC) basically started at the 7th Anniversary of PaxLair on January 19, 2005.  Fights were held nearly each week for several months.  There were weekly no-prize fights that allowed fighters to increase their statistics and status for the monthly fight night which had a winning purse of gold.  CFC disbanded on July 24, 2005.  The old statistics and rules are still at http://www.paxlair.com/site10/cfc.

"I'm willing and able to operate the Friday Fight Nights in PaxLair," Judge Brixan Judico commented.  "I believe it's important to know who the best of the best is while having some fun.  I'll do my utmost to be fair and do hope people enjoy the fights, whether fighter or spectator."

The new Friday Fight Nights will be tracked on the new Friday Fight Night forum in the PaxLair Forums.  The Forum will have rules, announcements, and results along with lively discussion.

Memorial Buildings: PaxLair Church and Orc's Breath
Public Forge behind the Alchemy Shop

PAXLAIR, FELUCCA - October 22, 2005

Crusader of Paladins of Virtue (PV) recently constructed two buildings in PaxLair to commemorate two old PaxLair houses that crumbled into the ground.  In his effort to keep PaxLair history alive, he re-constructed the PaxLair Church and the Orc's Breath Public Forge at a new location in west PaxLair behind the Alchemy Shop.

Both original buildings were in PaxLair since near its beginning over 7 years ago.  The Church was originally nestled in the woods just west of the Alchemy Shop in west PaxLair.  Many came to the church regularly to worship their deities or for peaceful solitude and reflection.  The Orc's Breath Public Forge was just east of the Twin Towers next to the PaxLair Town Hall.  The Forge fell to rubble on around September 15, 2005.  It had some "enhanced items" placed in the building by the gods when PaxLair was young.  Most of those items were returned to the ether by the gods; some still remain on the old site, though, as a memory of a once great public forge.  One of the last images of the Forge in its original location is here.

Crusader saw the decay and demolition of both of these famous buildings.  Mayor Winfield visited the reconstructed houses recently and said, "It is good we have people like Crusader.  He helps remind us of our past and the many wonderful days when people flourished in this area.  We must not forget our past and use it to build a brighter future."

Commander Kiera Vaelan calls recruits up one at a time

Submitted by Joshua Cross

SERPENTS HOLD, TRAMMEL - October 19, 2005

After the invasion of undead in Magincia on October 19th, Keira Vaelan, Commander of the Royal Guard, held a recruitment ceremony in Serpents Hold.  Those present lined up in an orderly fashion to be recruited into the guard and receive their official sash.  The massive line of more than fifty anxious volunteers waited to speak with Commander Vaelan.

Also, Viceroy Gareth of PaxOku and Elijah Cross (Defense Minister of PaxLair and leader of the Paladins of Virtue) assisted the Commander by guarding and watching for those who might try to sneak back into the line to be recruited twice.

This was truly a great night for Britannia.  The town of Magincia was saved from the undead and many loyal citizens of Britannia were added to the number of the Royal Guard!

Evil beware!  The Royal Guard stands ready!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

UO Radio will interview several people from PaxLair on their weekly live radio show, Sunday October 16, 2005 at 5-7PM ET.

The two-hour interview is expected to reveal much about the history, people, values, goals, and future of PaxLair as one of the longest running "player towns" on the Chesapeake Shard.  The interview should include the Mayor of PaxLair, Viceroy of PaxOku, Minister of Quests, leader of the Paladins of Virtue, leader of the House of Elindale, and a friend of the PaxLair Alliance.

PaxLair is not a guild; it is a community of people.  Over the past 7 years PaxLair has strived to be a place for all people to come in a sense of neutrality and respect.  The working government continues to offer opportunities for people to lead different aspects of this community from quests and adventures to combat and defense.

Friday, 23 September 2005

The Gatekeeper paid a visit to the Red Wolf Cafe dart competition on Tuesday.  Many wondered what his presence could mean.  I was worried another imbalance would take another beloved friend to the underworld.  Fortunately, my fears were not realized.
After the competition, the Gatekeeper asked several of us to be a part of experiment of sorts.  He wanted to observe the state of balance between humans and elves.  He asked for volunteers, both human and elven, to travel to Sanctuary and prepare a meal in the spirit of a "Dinner in a Dungeon."
We were split into an elven and human group.  The experiment called for each group to gather the necessary items to put on a wonderful feast for the other group within the safety of Sanctuary.  Each group leader would be required to make a speech at their respective meals, the contents being left to the leaders descretion.  In order to further test the balance we were required to engage in combat through the ruins that surround Sanctuary to determine our unity or disunity as races.

Imposter Birds

PAXOKU, TOKUNO — rumors flying around PaxLair suggest that birds of a feather steal together!  Residents of PaxLair's subordinate city PaxOku have been, in the last fourty-eight hours, reporting cases of theft of various items to the city's authorities.  According to the reports, parrots have been seen making off with valuables and depositing them at the city's treasury vault!

Spokesperson on-leave for the Vault, Juanita Duke (the sister of the once infamous dart player John Duke and brother to mob kingpin Johnny Duka) said in a quick interview this afternoon that the parrots have been making random drops of goods for the last two days at the Vault.  She also explained that this may have something to do with an evil plot by bird-mafia leader Winflyed.

City authorities have also responded to reports about the winged foes answering to the names of several government officials, saying that the imposters will be cornered and stripped of their feathers at the next opportunity!

But is there any real stopping these bird-brains, or will they just take to the skies and continue to prey on the innocent yet wealthy folk of Oku?

Such fowl behaviour must be stopped!
