The Gatekeeper watches the PaxLair Meeting

PAXOKU, TOKUNO - June 27, 2006

The PaxLair-wide meeting had a special guest, one who has not been seen for several months.  The Gatekeeper stood and listened to the one-hour meeting of cities and guilds.  The entity did not say much during the meeting while Mayor Winfield asked Ministers, Viceroys, and citizens to address the audience on latest projects and happenings.

The meeting covered new information about Dragons Watch leadership appointments, new exercises planned for the PaxLair Defense Forces, the next BLT Adventure, and the PaxOku auction house and vendors.

Later, there was speculation about why The Gatekeeper was at the meeting, even though it did not launch a quest upon the people.

The next PaxLair-wide meeting will be on Tuesday, July 11th in Dragons Watch, Felucca.  The July 4th meeting is cancelled so people may launch fireworks and enjoy time with family and friends.

Fignut the Elder and Mayor Winfield

MOONGLOW, TRAMMEL - July 8, 2006

Mayor Winfield met an old friend of his, Fignut the Elder, in Moonglow today and made him one of his Diplomats of PaxLair.  The Mayor is preparing to embark on diplomatic missions throughout the shard and is working on building his Diplomatic Team.  These missions will take the Mayor and diplomats to many guilds, cities, establishments, and events.

"The purpose of my outreach beyond PaxLair is to get to know the many wonderful places and faces of this Realm," the Mayor said in an interview.  "My Diplomatic Team will also travel to Felucca to meet as many guilds there as possible.  When the missions are completed, people will hopefully know more about our PaxLair Community and our Community will know more about people around the Shard.  There are many connections needed in these days of peril on our Shard.  I hope to foster these connections not just for PaxLair but for our Shard as well."

Fignut and Winfield reminisced about old times and talked about how old people just keep getting older and slower.  Diplomacy can be slow anyway, so sometimes it's a good pace for older folk.  They seem to have a good friendship, dating back to days when the shard was young.

Trinity North, the Matron of UTB, (messageboard here) officiated the Pet Tournament after inviting everyone on the Shard through her contacts and the UO Stratics Chesapeake forum.  For more than an hour, pets of all shapes and sizes battled for Victory and Recognition.  Blood splattered the ground and at times the audience in some of the most gruesome displays of combat seen in months.

Former Mayor Minsk and Mayor Winfield in PaxGlacei

PAXGLACEI, MALAS - July 9, 2006

Former Mayor Minsk of PaxLair joined the PaxLair Diplomatic Team as Mayor Winfield prepares for upcoming diplomatic missions around the Shard.

From her tower in PaxGlacei, Malas, Minsk explained, "I really look forward to helping in Diplomacy, Winfield.  I like to meet as many people as I can."

Mayor Winfield commented to nearby reporters, "Mayor Minsk will be a great addition to our team. Her skills in diplomacy are fantastic.  She led PaxLair during difficult times on Felucca and knows many people in the Realm."

Winfield further explained that the diplomatic missions are already underway to some degree.  His team is in contact with several guilds and establishments where friendship are being formed.  "There's plenty of opportunities to meet people in this Realm," Winfield said.  "We just have to make a little effort to visit places and talk with folk.  The more we know each other, the easier it is for us to work together in times of crisis, celebrations, and adventures."

Minsk was the Mayor of PaxLair January 30, 2002 through January 19, 2005.

Museum of Virtue

DRY HIGHLANDS DESERT SOUTHEAST OF UMBRA, MALAS - July 9, 2006

Lady Katherine, head curator of the Museum of the Virtues [MotV], held a grand opening of the Museum on Sunday, July 9, 2006.  Many people rushed to the doors to get a first look at this highly acclaimed place to study the Virtues.

Inside, Lady Katherine showed people the eight tables dedicated to the eight virtues.  Each table shows the virtue's color, legendary person for that virtue, an item of significance, a crystal ball, and a colored chest with books about the virtue.

"This is the best place I've ever seen to learn about the virtues that are forever prevalent in our land," one virtue seeker stated. "I will come here often."

There is also a table dedicated to the Bell, Book, and Candle representing Courage, Truth, and Love.

The Noble Alliance of Virtue [NAV] (Sky Page Here) arrived with many of its guildmates.  They studied the tables and visited the spacious meeting areas on the upper floors.  They were very, very impressed at the Museum.

For a short while, The Gatekeeper wandered throughout the museum.  It asked if it could use the museum at times.  It also said something about anti-Virtues, but did not comment further.

The Museum of Virtue is located at 8-31S 66-22E (Malas).

PaxOku Graveyard

PAXOKU, TOKUNO - July 11, 2006

(Reported by Gareth)

Seven miners lost their lives in the mountains west of PaxOku yesterday during a sudden and tragic mine collapse.  A lack of certain safety measures are being blamed as the cause.  Mine officials were not available for comment.

Viceroy Gareth arrived on the scene while the bodies were being carefully removed.  He placed a gag order on all rescuers until families could be notified.  Gareth met with families soon after the mine was cleared.  The families requested their loved ones be buried in PaxOku.

To make the new cemetary, Gareth, Nara, and Sarberius leveled the old PaxOku apartments and Playhouse with explosion potions set off by earthquake spells.  The building crumbled into dust.  Workers quickly cleared the debris.

Using funds from the PaxOku Treasury, the city hired Mordan to excavate and build a city graveyard.  Construction finished in the early morning today and the miners' bodies were lain to rest.  However, after construction was thought to be completed, residents heard additional digging at the graveyard site.  Viceroy Gareth asked residents and officials to find Mordan to determine the reason for additional digging at the graveyard.

Conclusion of PaxLair-wide Meeting
in Dragons Watch, Felucca

DRAGONS WATCH, FELUCCA - July 11, 2006

The PaxLair-wide meeting was held for the first time in many, many months within the great historical city of Dragons Watch, Felucca.  Viceroy Benris [DWxC] established a new meeting hall in DW.  A rune to the meeting hall is on the steps of the Tea House in PaxOku.

About 20 people attended the meeting hearing reports and discussing defense against the Ophidians, an upcoming ceremony for a change in Viceroy of PaxOku, diplomatic missions underway, successful defenses of PaxLair cities, a caravan is planned, more guilds are to join PaxLair City Felucca, a tour of Dragons Watch after the meeting, and continued successes in PaxOku with crafters and auctions.

The Ophidian Collection in the Museum of The Virtues

MUSEUM OF THE VIRTUES (8-20S, 66-39E), MALAS - July 15, 2006

Kartherine, the Curator of the Museum of the Virtues, recently created a study area specifically devoted to the Ophidians.  There are many books recovered from old ethereal archives about the Ophidians.

Some of the books may not apply to the Ophidians being encountered across the Realm, but it is important to at least have a basic understanding of the Ophidian Race.

All are encouraged to visit the Museum of the Virtues and learn about our enemies the Ophidians.  Or are they our friends and we just don't understand them yet.  What do they seek in the Realm that can avert this impending war?

Mayor Calls for a Leadership Retreat Soon Print

PAXLAIR CITY, FELUCCA -  July 25, 2006

At the PaxLair-wide meeting held in PaxLair City, Felucca tonight, Mayor Winfield announced he is planning a one-day retreat for PaxLair leadership in PaxGlacei, Malas within the next two weeks.  Former Mayor Minsk graciously offered the use of her home (a tower) there for the leadership retreat.  The retreat will involve the Mayor, Former Mayor, Ministers, Viceroys, and Deputy Viceroys.

In an interview after the PaxLair meeting, Mayor Winfield said, "at times the leadership of PaxLair needs to get their heads together.  We need to look back on our past and forge paths for the future.  PaxLair continues to change every day with more leadership changes, activities, new history, and newer ideas.  I have great respect for the abilities of PaxLair's leadership with significant ideas from our citizens to move us forward into the nineth year of PaxLair's existence."

There were a few comments made by citizens after the meeting that they would not be able to attend the retreat.  In the interview, the Mayor responded, "I have high hopes that many people are interested in the way-ahead for PaxLair.  And that is apparently so!  I am pleased with this.  However, we have an organized and working government in our PaxLair community and I need to be able to discuss things succinctly and frankly with the appointed leadership ... and they with me.  We are not holding secrets from anyone; in fact, we are one of the most transparent communities with plenty of news, announcement of decisions, and openness to our citizens, allies, and friends.  We are always willing to explain our goals and our paths to get where we would like to go.  A retreat of this sort will allow us to efficiently and effectively bring issues to the table for solution along with new and innovative ideas.  It is hard to do some of this in a Town Hall atmosphere, but the Town Halls will come, even before certain decisions may be made.  I hope all citizens work with their city leadership to bring up any ideas or concerns before our leadership retreat."

[OOC: In other words, we are role-playing the government which is one of the essences of PaxLair.  And this is an 'off-site' conducted in character for the RP'd leadership.  We'll see what happens and what comes out of it--it's another way we challenge ourselves to RP a working government within the Realm.]

PAXLAIR CITY, FELUCCA - July 25, 2006

The next PaxLair-wide meeting will be in PaxOku, Tokuno on August 1, 2006 at 9 PM ET.

Introductions

Viceroy DutchessVanHorn gives her PaxLair City Report

Allana of C^L introduced herself as a promoter of their kind of Vampyr.  They want to meet us and learn of our world.  They will have a party on Saturday, July 29, 2006 at 9 PM ET at their home (or crypts?); there will be 15 prizes and she handed out runes at the meeting. Also, "anyone wanting to be a 'companion' [of the Vampyrs] can have the opportunity to do so," she said.

Daria Blackmore (RBG) also introduced herself. More of the Royal Britannian Guard were also in the audience.

PaxLair City Ceremony

Viceroy DutchessVanHorn decreed that Co5 [Circle of Fifths] is accepted as a PaxLair City Citizen Guild.  Lord Angus, GM of Co5, introduced the guild as a group that likes to hunt and protect each other.  They are based north of PaxLair City and also at a home in the swampy side of Britain on Trammel.

Mayor's Remarks

Mayor Winfield announced there is a gathering at the end of next month, and all can find more information on the Stratics forums.  He went on to recommend that the PaxLair Community could lead the Autumn Harvest Festival for the Chesapeake Shard.  The Festival would be in October.  Finally, he asked the former Mayor Minsk, Ministers, Viceroys and Deputy Viceroys to let him know when they are available in the next two weeks.  He'd like to hold a Retreat in PaxGlacei at Mayor Minsk's home to meet with the leadership of the cities.

Former Mayor Minsk's Memorial to Veterans of Communities of the Shard

Mayor Minsk announced she is creating a memorial atop her tower in PaxGlacei to all those who have left PaxLair.  She would like the names of people and citizens of PaxLair.  Some guilds include the likes of The Band, CoV, Wraiths, Ladies of the Lair, PxK, PV, PxG, and more.  She plans to also include names of people from Duir of Yew and Corwyn.  People can write names and guilds in a book and give to Minsk or drop the book off in the Post Office in PaxOku addressed to Minsk.

Defense Report

Minister Oda Nobunga stated there is an agreement with the lone archer CrazyK outside.  He will not attack anyone inside the towers. As well, people should not initiate an attack on him from inside the towers, but outside is fair game.  MInister Oda has also moved out of PaxOku and is now more available for defense matters once again.  His hope for newcomers to PaxLair City and all the cities of PaxLair is for them to have the ability to enjoy any and all levels of involvement, such as Defense, Peerless hunts, and adventure hunting.  The Ministry of Defense will focus on this broad aspect of combat and defense within the PaxLair Community and the Realm.

PaxLair City Report

DutchessVanHorn offered to the audience an opening for any ideas for events in PaxLair City.  Also, there are times when some people attack in PaxLair City and people should remember the rules of the houses.  If the person is attacking you, you may defend and retaliate.  Most houses are off limits for combat, but some people do not follow those laws.  Attacks on meetings and scheduled events will result in temporary bannings until the end of the event.  Also, PaxLair City is starting Friday Fight Nights again.  There is a Grand Opening this Friday Night!  Second place is 1M gold and First place is 5M gold!  The city still needs some people to help with the event, so citizens and friends are encouraged to help out.  The Fight will be at 9PM ET on Friday, July 28.  PaxLair City would also like an adventure night for treasure hunting, so give Dutchess ideas.

Dragons Watch Report

NANOC represented Dragons Watch and will be talking to John McBain later on about nominations for Viceroy of Dragons Watch.

PaxOku Report

Viceroy Visago gave the PaxOku report.  About a week ago, a group gathered at the BLT and with the help of PV were able to venture into dungeon Khuldune and recover books that were lost to many of us.  These books will be added to the PaxOku library soon. The names of those who went on this adventure will also be published.  Also, Wednesday is the PaxkratOku Auction.  Thursday is the BLT adventure night to Palace Paroxymus at 9 PM ET.  Crafter sessions in PaxOku are also ongoing.  Resource vendors continue to prosper.

Adjourn to the PaxLair Survival Shop

The meeting concluded and many people went to the PaxLair Survival Shop (PSS) just east of the twin towers.  There was much revelry and drinking of ale while people discussed everything from the Ophdian invasions to long lost friends.

A DARK FORTRESS IN MALAS - July 27, 2006

Allana, the Blood Mistress of Cruento Lamia [C^L] attended the last PaxLair-wide meeting on July 25, 2006 and announced a "Vampyr Party" at an undisclosed location.  She did hand out runes to the location at the PaxLair meeting.  As it turns out, the location is in Malas at an ominous and dark fortress (40-52N 73-28E Malas) directly North of the Doom entrance.  Mayor Winfield took his cartographers there today to take a good look at the fortress.  "It is a mighty place," the Mayor said to his cartographers.  "I wonder what this Vampyr Party will be like.  I best repair my gorget."

Event: Vampyr Party

Fight Night: 5M Gold goes to Solomon! Print

PAXLAIR CITY, FELUCCA - July 28, 2006

In a blaze of combat between 13 fighters, Solomon became the latest PaxLair Fight Nights Champion and taking home a purse prize of 5M gold!  The final two battles between Solomon and Twinky the Kid ({X}), who won 1M gold, were some of the most exiting yet.

Held at 9PM ET on Friday, July 28th, Viceroy DutchessVanHorn of PaxLair City assembled the fighters and judged the event assisted by Kayi of PaxOku, and many citizens and friends of PaxLair.

The fight had a 30-minute delay while some disruptions occured and the Fighters' List had to be quickly re-compiled.  The delay allowed some of the fighters to get in a little practice defending the Arena Tower.  The fighters and PaxLair Defense Forces also helped more people arrive safely.  When things calmed down and were ready, the fights were on with each round running quickly and efficiently.

The audience and fighters were able to constantly see the current fight bracket standings as the PaxLair staff rapidly posted each match result.

This long-awaited Fight Nights should mark the beginning of a return of Friday Fight Nights in PaxLair City.  However, the Staff is not certain if they will hold Fights on every Friday night or if they will have such a large prize.  Each upcoming fight will be announced.

The Fighter Lineup, July 28, 2006

The Fight Nights Skypage is here.

Warning to Disruptors: Anyone who fights in the area of or in the North Arena Tower in a non-consentual manner during this official player-event, will be banned from the Tower and all future PaxLair Friday Fight Nights.  The incident will be reported to the PaxLair Government for other PaxLair activities. Please be respectful and come to have cooperative fun. PaxLair City is NEUTRAL on Felucca and we want to cater to all types of people.  We do this for the Community... your Community!

NECROMANCERS TOURNAMENT ARENA, MALAS - July 29, 2006

The Crueno Lamia (C^L) guild hosted an exceptional party at the Necromancers Tournament Arena in Malas during the dark hours of the evening on July 29, 2006.  Many people of the Sosarian community attended to enjoy fine food and drink.  They learned much about the Vampyrs to include their primary source of nutrition--blood.  None were bitten at the party, to the best of information from reports.  The hosts also took the party on a tour of the Arena noting many artifacts, skeletons, and strange blood inscriptions along the way.

The Vampyrs recently entered the Realm and are quickly proving to be a central group for wandering people and beings of dark natures.  They are a mysterious guild of Vampyrs that does not reveal their secrets to the public.  However, they do want the people of Sosaria to understand them, which is one reason they threw this party.

The party was hosted by Allana (the C^L mistress), Pandora, Lore, and Deryl.  It is not yet known how people may quickly reach the Vampyrs, but they said they are frequently in this Arena.

Mazrim Taim introduced himself as one of the Knights of Darkness [KOD].

Viceroy of Dragons Watch Appointment Ceremony

Mayor Winfield appointed NANOC as the Viceroy of Dragons Watch in a ceremony at the beginning of the meeting.  Mayor Winfield explained a little about Dragons Watch and NANOC.  After the Mayor accepted NANOC's oath of office and NANOC received the appointment, Viceroy NANOC told the audience that Dragons Watch's renewal is continuing.  Dragons Watch is one of the five cities of PaxLair, each led by a Viceroy who makes decisions and leads the city.  The cities are usually a combination of citizen guilds, citizens, allies, and friends involved in many shops, events, quests, culture, lore, and legends.

Deep inland, further than any pirate lass wishes to trudge, began our insane danger fraught quest for treasures.  Newly hired a dark Drow elf of suspicious background warned we need see a certain fortune teller.  We traveled this wild land at the request of one, and I must say t’was not entirely uneventful.  Tis meant to be a Ship’s log and yet here we art traveling roads of dust and stone.  What a silly thing for a sea hound to do.

Nearing the Old Teller’s hideaway many of my crew found themselves a bit more than worried.  Strange trees grew close and slimy together.  What trees art these that would devour a man just at the touch?  Tis reason enough to stay to the open sea.

Report on the Savage Trade Agreements, Papua & Delucia Print

Thursday, 10 August 2006

"Bloody cann'bal 'avages! Who te' hell d'they thinks thar dealin wit'here. Cle'ner up dar lands arr nay tribal berries, the Nerves! I 'ave been losing men left and right down in 'em lost lands and the snake still be a'comn strong. Yar boys besta' gear up for some hikin'in them untamed lands ter meet the 'avage kingy Rhudda. Tell 'hem Holley sent you as 'is Diplomats to renew trade. Durn 'ake NAY fer an answer! lest ye mates care ter hang by yer necks from that ther' scale o' bal 'nce in paxlair city. Dissapoint me and yer shur' tah hang, them berries are too valueable ta' lose right now, demand is high and dabloons ar' ta be made." Exclaimed Kerrs as he set down his third bottle of pirate brew ale.

The men haven't seen the commodore this mad since the King tried to set fire to Port Baldmor. Commodore Holley had good reason to be angry though, with the Ophidian Wars raging, the Red Dagger Pirates have dwindled in numbers greatly. The fear that DAGR may no longer have the man power to patrol the seas sat heavy on him. What if a new pirate crew came and took the seas over? No, we need this trade agreement to put gold in our treasury and attract possible replacements for those fallen sailors. The few seasoned pirates left in the crew gathered their resources and awaited the Commodores next commands. "Dreckfel, Mad Jack, and Buds since ya three haver been ter'dem lost lands countless times im sending only yous. I cannot risk losing more of the crew than we 'ave lefts, so A'vry body not called stays b'hind." said Holley. From there the three seasoned fighters set sail from Port Baldmor to the Serpent pillar out in the middle of the high seas to be transported to the lost lands.

"All this trek'in is'ar making me feet sore" complained Dreckfel. "Keep moving ya lout erse you want'er hang by ya'neck like Kerrs said" replied Mad Jack " won't be too long from here now anyways". After landing in the lost lands in an undisclosed location the three pirates set off on a two day journey through the heat and masquito ridden jungle to finally reach their destination. The commodore was right about the savages, they cared little for talk unless they were forced to listen. The three pirates made themselve ready for what lay ahead. With a roar of battle cries they launched themselves into the mix of undead and liches until they were able to reach the wooden fort of the savages. "We are here to speak with the-" Dreckfel did not get to finish his sentence due to a spear suddenly striking him in the shoulder. Buds dragged Dreckfel into a descrete clearing to bandage up the flesh wound, while Mad Jack started off the negotiating with a blaze of sword slashing! Before long all three were in heavy battle against one young savage or another. They all seemed to be coming in from nowhere and everywhere.

"Up thar, perhaps the kingy is hiding out in thar lit 'le room!" shouted Buds as his arrow struck down yet another savage. "Mad Jack keep these Sav 'ges busy while I try ter talkin' sence inter'em, jers' don keel hual tem all bef 're i canst getter word in!" shouted Dreckfel over the wounded dying. After some while Dreckfel's words got through to them, they even seemed a little scared when he told them of Holley's demands and conditions. The threat of more pirates coming in to finish off their tribe sunk into those thick skulls and the fighting stopped. Some what. One of the Savages took the list of demands that laid on the roughly chizzeled table and exclaimed she will personally deliver em to her tribal king. We made it clear to the Savage holding the demands that it must make it to the king else we would return with more pirates. Even though this was not true because Kerrs couldnt risk more crew casualties, the Savage bought the bluff. With a grin set on each of our faces we left the camp in haste to make it back to our glorious diamond sparkling seas and home. Check back next week to see if Commodore Kerrs and the Savage King have come to a trade agreement

It is reported that Jhym, one of the old Songmiths of Sosaria, recently wandered the ruin areas of Corwyn near Skara Brae, Felucca. People talked to Jhym during his travels, asked for a song, and learned Jhym may construct a new stage and a few shops.  This would be wonderful during a time when songs and ballads are sorely needed to motivate the troops before and during battles.  Songs are even needed more in times of triumph and celebration, to record the history of our land and peoples.

Jhym pondered a name for such a village and came up with the Shire of Geistholz and Wintersoul Tavern.  It was suggested in a recent community meeting that planners and developers should find Jhym and learn more of his plans.
