Law Signing Ceremony in PaxLair

Mayor Winfield signed eight laws for PaxLair on May 10, 2000 during the weekly city meeting held atop the North Tower in PaxLair. He signed a copy placed at the Senior Magistrate's podium at the head of the Courtroom on the roof.

Many people attended the ceremony and meeting--some coming and going. The people present were: Mayor Winfield, Chancellor Rhyssand, Chancellor Ruglug, Mayor's Assistant Winmere, Senior Magistrate Neo of Lothlore, Pizzaman Luigi Aiello, Knight Max, Knight Zanthor, Squire Cobalt, Squire Safious, Squire SteelMageBoy, Squire Venrune, Squire Zarp, Squire Zed, Maverick, KurrieKat, Winemaker Thorwick, Victor, Trade Master Vienne, Fury of the Master Drinrick, Dark Temptress Kylina Dawn, Citizen Beleg Cuithalion, The Clowny Mage wizzie, Hades Sanguinis, Evil Druid of HCR Hendriel, Luna, Ty of Britain [Mab], Tyrett, and Companion of Legends Fignut the Elder.

Also, Recruits Abraxis Lue and Dalton Cole, Guardians of the Alliance, stood as honor guards at the front door of the tower.

Pizzaman Luigi Aiello provided delicious pies for after the meeting.

The Ceremony and Speech

Mayor Winfield addressed the audience:

Tonight, we have on our agenda a special occasion. One that will hopefully establish a unique characteristic within your City of PaxLair.

These are an establishment of laws. From laws, we may have a plan for Justice, and with a means for determining Justice, we will have a foundation for City Defense.

I am proposing laws as written in the books around you. There are Eight Laws, each governing a different aspect yet many are coupled with each other.

These laws cover the following: Aggression, Thievery, Neutrality, Immediate Justice, Proprietorship, Mayor's Decrees, Exception for Defense, and Precedence.

Now, before I sign these Laws into effect, are there any questions about them?

All appeared to be in agreement with the proposed Laws and there were no questions at this time.

Mayor Winfield walked to the Senior Magistrate's podium and picked up the pen. He said, "By my hand, I sign these laws for PaxLair on this day." He signed the lawbook and allowed the ink to dry. He then addressed the people once more:

I will entrust to our Senior Magistrate Neo of Lothlore to conduct trials of accused criminals in a fair manner. I am also looking to have a Chancellor of Justice to maintain and improve our Justice system. Such a chancellor will be chosen by me after rigorous interviews and a statement of the person's past Judicial experience.

The Chancellor and Senior Magistrate will work closely together. Additional positions for Magistrates will open as Neo of Lothlore sees fit--also for positions of Detectives.

These laws apply for all who come here. Not all criminals and criminal acts will warrant a trial. Such will be the decision of the Magistrates.

After these remarks, a criminal in the audience attacked and killed a horse atop the tower. The criminal quickly scurried out of the tower with several townsfolk and visitors in hot pursuit. The criminal was not apprehended, but was subsequently barred from re-entrance to the North Tower.

Senior Magistrate Neo of Lothlore's Address

Upon the return of the people, Neo of Lothlore, the Senior Magistrate, addressed the audience:

My friends, yesterday I sat down in my office. It includes the rights and responsibilities for all who would be involved within the court. I will post it on the City messageboard so everyone may have a look.

After we recruit a few more lawyers, perhaps someone will commit a crime to bring to trial; not that I am saying go commit a crime. That be all.

A few other topics were discussed at the meeting and then Mayor Winfield adjourned the meeting as the Bells of PaxLair rang out signifying the top of the hour. We then sat and enjoyed Luigi's hot baked pies.
