General Information about
PaxLair Law and Justice

A Society promoting opportunity for all can not exist without guidelines for proper conduct within the Society. Such is the need for Law and Justice.
-- Mayor Winfield, May 2000

The Basis for PaxLair Law and Justice

PaxLair has advanced from a wilderness town where basic survival instincts were the laws ... to a community as diverse as the realm itself. As such, it is a constant challenge to develop and enforce laws for the greater good of the community.

In a realm of constant conflict, the laws for PaxLair need to be clear, balanced based on the philosphies of PaxLair, and apply to all people who venture into our city.

The Laws are not specifically for [Roleplayers]. They are designed to apply to all people. Justice will be applied as consistently as possible to all cases of similar nature.

Enforcement of the laws depends greatly upon the dedication of those who willingly abide by and defend our laws. Citizens and Visitors of PaxLair alike may enforce these laws and bring criminals to justice. PaxLair is a city of few resources and is openly a gathering place for any and all people and races. Those who enjoy this environment are encouraged to do their part in the defense and Justice system of their community of PaxLair.

The Structure of PaxLair Law and Justice

Law is the basis for Justice
Justice is the basis for City Defense
City Defense is a basis for Peace

PaxLair is a monarchy with representational advice from the Chancellors, City Council, Citizens, Shopkeepers, local Groups, patrons, and visitors. The Mayor establishes laws through decrees or the publishing of general laws.

The Mayor does not become involved in deciding or carrying out Justice unless a case is brought before him that has vital impact upon the future course of PaxLair. Cases that do not have this significance are for to the Chancellor of Justice and the Magistrates to decide.

The Chancellor of Justice and Magistrates must be actively involved within the PaxLair community. They must be dedicated to fairness, observation, and clear thought because their rulings can become precedence for new judicial law. They must properly interpret situations about how the laws apply and offer clear advice to those seeking legal counsel. They must decide when a trial is worthy of time and effort, and situations when immediate justice is warranted.

A Note from Mayor Winfield

Continued development of PaxLair Law and Justice. There are many opportunities for people to become involved in this aspect of PaxLair. Law and Justice are some of the most difficult concepts and applications within our realm. This is particularly true and challenging for a city, such as PaxLair, that is open to all and promotes the philosophy of neutral ground for everyone.

As such and in full cooperation with ideas from the Senior Magistrate, there is a need for dedicated individuals to serve as:

As Mayor of PaxLair, I offer this framework for a Law and Justice system. However, I am not the judge nor do I interpret law for individual situations unless an interpretation is needed that affects a long-term situation for PaxLair.

Thus, the success or failure of PaxLair's Law and Justice system rests in the hands of those interested in such things in our community. The framework is established and that is my role as Mayor. Now, others may apply their roles and participate in this new opportunity.
