PAXOKU (TOKUNO), PAXLAIR - January 19, 2007

Winfield, Governor of PaxLair, sponsored PaxLair's 9th Anniversary Gala Ball and Dinner at the Museum of the Virtues: PaxOku Annex on January 19, 2007.  Katherine, the curator of the Museum, was contracted to host the event with a three-course meal and with wine imported from Guardians Gate.  Throughout the evening meal, many toasts were made and many stories told.  The dinner lasted over an hour and attended by 21 people.  Following the dinner, Governor Winfield gave a resounding and thoughtful speech in the Shrine Garden just outside the Museum.

The Museum of the Virtues: PaxOku Annex is open for business for these types of special dinners and events.  Anyone may reach Katherine and schedule their event, complete with a variety of foods, wines, ales, and entertainment.

The Mayor's speech for the 9th Anniversary focused on ringing in the Age of Enlightenment.

The Speech

[full text of the speech]

9 Years ago Today, on January 19th, yes 9 years ago ... A guild in our Realm called The Band placed several buildings in a meadow in Felucca just west of the Compassion Shrine and Desert. The group of buildings grew over time, but more importantly is that a whole community of people gathered together at what became a crossroads. That crossroads meadow of peace, neutrality and [role-playing] became known as PaxLair, or Peace-Place. From the outset, PaxLair sought to meet and greet every person in the Realm whether evil or good.

Now after a span of 9 years, PaxLair has grown to a Statehood of several cities, each catering to people with diverse goals. We found we could not meet the needs and interests of our citizenry and friends in one location, especially after the other facets became inhabitable. We did not move PaxLair, we did not abandon PaxLair ... We continued PaxLair with more interest to meet even more people.

So now we have five cities in PaxLair. They are Dragons Watch, PaxLair City, PaxLane, PaxOku, and Port Baldmor. Right now we are in PaxOku which is a younger sister city of PaxLair City. The other cities grew in their own ways and connected themselves to PaxLair.

I truly thank all the people of PaxLair of the past and present who have devoted literally thousands of hours of their lives to create something so permanent and resilent.

Today, we are completing our 6-month Age of Cities that focused on defining our cities, our governments, and our citizenry. That Age is now over. Our "stage" has been built.

Today we start a new Age, called the Age of Enlightenment. This dinner tonight is symbolic of what is to come and can be. I look around and I see the faces of all kinds of people. I see citizens and friends, and who knows maybe a few enemies too. We are a melting pot in this community-at-large with great diverse interests.

And in this Age of Enlightenment, we seek to do one simple thing. Be here, in the Realm, doing all the things we enjoy together. We can immerse ourselves completely in this environment, this Realm. Each of us brings a gift to others and the Realm, and that is our personality and creativity. Whether interested in combat or quests or commerce, we have a place here.

Over the next six months, our cities will prosper at a pace of quality, always seeking respect among people of all natures. Our goals are to aid the young and rekindle any lost spirit in the veterans. We will encounter races of beings, such as orcs, vampyres, kobolds, elves, humans and many more who come in the sense of lore, legends, and creativeness. We will encounter situations in the Realm and react to them from within the Realm.

The Age of Enlightenment is a focus on the people and less on the government. Yet the government officials will perform their functions and roles as defined by our "stage", and to the expectations of all our citizens. We will work with other cities and towns, such as Guardians Gate. Already they have provided the wine at our festival dinner, brought carefully by sea and not magical means from their winery. We will encounter new towns and cities in the future, and form diplomatic relations. We will work with guilds to help them prosper and increase their enjoyment.

My friends, PaxLair will always take risks to try something new. It will not dwell on the past, but it will learn from the past and move forward. And I personally thank everyone here tonight because each of you bring value to us all.

Dragonspeed to you all, Dragonspeed to PaxLair, and Dragonspeed to the Realm! Thank you.

Winfield, Governor of PaxLair
