More on the Xun Verin... |

PAXLAIR - July 20, 1999 - Azazel "Oooooooohhhhhhhhhhh" No, Bill Clinton didn't find another intern. This was the sound heard at PaxLair this past Sunday night. What started out as a nice calm quiet day in the city of PaxLair, ended up being.......... a not calm quiet day in the city of PaxLair. An army of two joined forces, the Snub'Gruk Clan of orcs, and the Xun Verin, came to the city looking for nothing but a hectic fight. The fight took place in front of PaxLair's Twin Mage Towers, soon to be the Twin Tower of Order, and the Twin Tower of Chaos.
All in all, the fight in it's entirely, rocked! If I may be frank, though I am Azazel, so anyways..... Battles such as this one rarely occur without much planning on both sides, they are hardly just random occurrences that one side plans and acts out. Usually when a major war is fought, each side squabbles on what they lost to looters, and who has how many murder counts. However, at this war, there wasn't much of that going on. All the orcs and XV were either red already, or turned grey from attacking innocents. When they died, if the chance arose for them to give someone a murder count, they did not take it (Murbog, the guild master for the Snub'Gruk Clan confirmed this). This war was not between rival guilds, it was part of the plot to the so far, ongoing story of the Xun Verin. I was at PaxLair during this time, so I was able to contribute, and participate in this war. For the most part I didn't see very much looting. As the attackers were slowly being outnumbered, they didn't have any time to loot any corpses, for after they struck down one foe, another had started attacking. Both sides took very many loses, as seen in the picture. Mayor Winfield wanted nothing more then to keep the peace in his wonderful city. After the fighting had subsided, the Mayor went to the orc fort where the orcs and XV where gathered. All seemed to go well, as Murbog said he would think about peace once again with PaxLair. Then, the PaxLair peopled damned themselves for eternity. A handful of Knights of PaxLair and Ladies of The Lair, along with some others, organized a counter attack on the orc fort. As soon as Mayor Winfield departed the fort, the counter attack started. The orcs and XV were slaughtered, and didn't take too kindly about it. Wanting to show there was absolutely no chance of a peace anymore, the orcs
once again attacked the Twin Towers. This time they focused their attention on
the Mayor. Low on man power, and still recovering from the last two battles,
the orcs were unable to kill the Mayor, and they met the ill fate they wished
upon him. An attack like that, however, isn't easily thwarted. It is the mear
message that is delivered when one performs an attack such as that. The orc's
message had gotten through crystal clear, delivered to the Mayor himself.
There was no longer ANY chance of peace between PaxLair, and the allied
Snub'Gruk Clan of orcs, and Xun Verin. So now the XV and Snub'Gruk Clan are allies. During the battle the answer to why was not clear. Though in the aftermath answers started surfacing. Lady Lisa of LaFrance wrote the following for PaxLair's archives, and it was featured in UOSS.
I however, wasn't satisfied with Murbog's answer. Why would the orcs ally with a group who had stared out with wanting to destroy them? I managed to find Murbog and ask him just this, and a little more.
"Cause dem ib nice," hmm, I suppose that's the equivalent of calling every psychopathic murderer a nice guy. Even that the orcs seem to be sure the XV are not concocting any diabolical schemes to use them, then trash them, I am not so sure. Though, there are others out there who have a side to tell.
