PAXLAIR - June 18, 1999 - Winfield
Kyle: Today we've come to honor Sir Fin. He has been serving as a squire to me for the last serveral weeks. In this time other knights and I have witnessed him prove his honor and reliablity time and time again.
Count Strahd: *snickers* Kyle: We've witnessed him continuing to fight even when against the odds. We've witnessed him chase after the town's most well-known aggressors. Sir Carados, LSD, etc. We've also seen him gain the respect of the town. When he did these noble deeds we weren't the only ones watching. For being a squire isn't just about proving thineself to the knights, but to the town. To gain the authority that a knight commands ye must not take it. It can only be given by those ye are to govern over. We've seen Sir Fin do this and watched the town give him the authority he needs to be a knight. Kyle: So Mayor Winfield I present to thee Sir Fin. We
know he is fit for knighthood. Winfield: Tis a great day indeed when a Squire is honored and Knighted as a Knight of PaxLair. This is the reason for which we gather this day. The Knights of PaxLair are the most honorable and virtuous of PaxLair, seeking daily to overcome strife and tribulation in this wilderness land which PaxLair resides. Moreso, the Knights of PaxLair are duty bound to represent me and the Chancellors as sworn emmissaries for this town and the people. Their duties are to carry out the virtues of this realm and follow a codex which defines the nature of the Knights and their duties. Each new Knight must swear to me their allegiance to this codex and to their role within the town of PaxLair. They serve the people of PaxLair. They serve their fellow Knights. They serve the virtues. I am honored to Knight a Squire who has shown uncanny valour and courage within the realm. Winfield: Squire Fin, Miner from Minoc, son of an unknown father, Ye are presented before me so that I may Knight thee. Squire Fin, I will recite the Codex of the Knights of PaxLair. After each phrase, answer "I swear" if you swear to each phrase. Winfield: A Knight shall not engage in any form of
unhonorable combat. Winfield: No Knight shall disrespect the wishes of
another. Winfield: No Knight shall claim any type of leadership
among his/her fellow Knights. Winfield: No Knight shall attack an innocent. Winfield: No Knight will drop to the level of a fool. Winfield: A Knight must protect those that are weaker. A
Knight will help defend PaxLair. Winfield: *turns to the mystical Knight Sword on the table* Winfield: Squire Fin, you have sworn upon the words of
the codex, do you also swear to me today your loyalty to PaxLair and its
people? Winfield: With this mystical sword of the Knights of
long ago, I bestow upon thee the duties of a Knight of PaxLair, Winfield: and I bestow upon thee the Knighthood you so
honorably deserve. Winfield: Rise now Sir Knight Fin of Minoc and receive
this sword as a symbol of your oath and your honor. Winfield: Ladies and Gentlemen, I present to you Sir Knight Fin of Minoc, a valiant Knight of PaxLair! Kyle: *smiles*
ZANTHOR: I suggest that we go now, and that Kyle lead
the people to our new home, where we will meet them. After proceeding to the PaxLair Knights' Headquarters... Fin the Smithy: [Knight of PaxLair, PxK] Winfield: Congratulations again Fin of Minoc. ZANTHOR: It is with great joy, that we announce to the
town this building as our new headquarters. ZANTHOR: Perhaps it is best if we head towards the Tavern... I am told food and drink await us. Winfield: If I may say a few words. Winfield: This place is a virtuous place, this tower.
The Knights of PaxLair represent that which is virtuous in the realm. It is
truly fitting and proper that this be their headquarters to serve the people
of PaxLair and the people of the Realm. I wish to dedicate this building
with a glowing lamp which may light the path for many Knights to come. Winfield: This place will offer a new light in the
lands. Winfield: Knights of PaxLair, you have served me well
and the people of this area. I look forward to you and more squires to take
on the difficulties of this realm and make it what the virtues prescribe as
right and correct.
