PAXLAIR ALLIANCE RULES

NOTE (June 10, 2006):  The PaxLair Alliance information here is OUT-OF-DATE.
The construction and operations of Alliances in the PaxLair Community has changed.  Cities and Guilds can now create and join their own Alliances inside and outside the PaxLair Community.

Welcome to the rules of the PaxLair Alliance.  Rules exist to enable the alliance to operate effectively and efficiently to achieve the Alliance's tenets of:
  • Respect
  • Cooperation
  • Participation

You may learn more about these tenets on the Alliance Overview Page under Tenets.

BASIC RULES FOR ALL ALLIANCE MEMBERS:

  • When in combat situations, Alliance members come first for protection before friends outside the Alliance.  (For example, alliance member A is friends with non-alliance person B.  Person B attacks alliance member C.  Then alliance member A has the duty to render aid to alliance member C first.)
  • No use of Alliance PVP features to have unconsentual PVP combat with other Alliance members.  In other words, no 'ganking' of anyone who is Green or a known Red in the Alliance.
  • No unconsentual looting of Alliance members.  (exceptions made when honest retrieval, protection, and return of items is involved.)
  • No cheating, hacking, duping, etc. that violate the conditions and agreements of EA/UO.
  • No racist or other unacceptable language, per the terms of agreement with EA/UO.

OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES/AUTHORITIES:

  • ALLIANCE LEADER - Ultimate decisions for the Alliance as a whole.
  • ALLIANCE GUILDMASTERS - Ultimate decisions for the guild within the Alliance.
  • ALLIANCE MEMBERS - (members of the guilds within the alliance) - Follow the decisions made by their Guildmasters and, when not conflicting, the Alliance Leader.

Alliance Leader (Mayor of PaxLair):

The Mayor of PaxLair, as Alliance Leader, makes final decisions that affect the Alliance at large.

  • Accepts new guilds into the Alliance.
  • Removes guilds from the Alliance.
  • Makes overall rules for the Alliance.
  • Provides regular updates to the Alliance regarding situations, policies, and changes in rules.
  • Receives confidential communication from alliance and non-alliance members as needed to make a decision.  Confidentiality will be strictly respected for sensitive issues.
  • Leads Alliance meetings.
  • Designates, when needed, an alternate Alliance Leader when not available for extended periods of time.
  • Personally or designates a member of the PaxLair Staff to establishe secure information services (boards, contact lists, etc.) for the Alliance.

Alliance Guildmasters:

Alliance Guildmasters make final decisions for their guilds.
  • Accepts new members into their guild.  Ensures new members understand the rules of the Alliance and are trusted enough to be in the Alliance.
  • If there is a problem with a member of their guild with another alliance guild member, the Guildmaster engages in the situation with the other Guildmaster and resolves it.  If necessary, the Alliance Leader will become involved.
  • Removes members from their guild based on their own decisions.
  • Brings to the attention of the Alliance Leader any situation that can adversely impact the Alliance as a whole.
  • States to the Alliance Leader and Alliance Members how decisions are made within their guild, for example using a council, etc.
  • Attends the Alliance Meetings personally or with representatives empowered to make decisions.
  • Personally or designates a member to work with the Alliance Leader on secure information systems within the Alliance.

RULES OF ENGAGEMENT (EXAMPLES):

Several example "rules of engagement" are described in order to better understand how the Alliance operates with relation to the community of PaxLair and the shard in general.  These will focus primarily on the Feluccan Environment where the Alliance encounters the most physical and emotional situations.

First, some basic information about operating locations in Felucca, primarily focused on PvP.

PaxLair City and Dragons Watch, Felucca

  • Both cities are physical parts of PaxLair to be protected under the tenets of Peace, Neutrality, and Role-playing, the basic tenets of PaxLair.
    • Peace - Peace is expected within these cities by all alliance members, citizens, and visitors.  Alliance, citizens, and friends of PaxLair may defend these locations when first 'fired upon' (any negative actions such as phsical attack or stealing).  If defenders are called into a situation, the defenders must first know who the enemy is and engage accordingly.
    • Neutrality - People of all walks of life are welcome into these cities, whether they be good or evil.  They should 'check their weapons by the door', as it were, and be able to meet people of many natures.  There may be some Role-played bantering back and forth, but not physical attacks.  Physical attacks may be done in honorable duels in the outdoor or various indoor arenas.
    • Role-playing - Evil and good role-players may come to these cities and stay consistent with their own natures.  Well known PvP role-players may come and create scenes for combat as long as they are done with caution and respect.  Respect must always be maintained.  The intent of RPing is to be in-character and have fun, but not to overdo it and create problems.  Care must be taken that bonifide role-players do not put themselves in situations where they are seen as 'gankers' or gaming PKs.  Pre-announced attacks usually fair better than random attacks.

Buildings in PaxLair Locations

  • Defenders of PaxLair should have a feel for which houses are part of, friends of, or enemies of the PaxLair community.  Surrounding enemy buildings inside PaxLair is not condoned unless the enemy is using their building as a PvP fortress (attacking from inside the building, and outside).
  • Some buildings are used for Role-playing purposes for evil and good.  The guilds or owners of these buildings will establish the basic nature of these buildings leading to attacks, defense, or neutral situations.
