OFFICIAL NOTICE - September 23, 2006
OUT OF CHARACTER:
From Malice123 on UO H.Hall OT (http://boards.stratics.com/php-bin/uo/postlist.php?Cat=&Board=uouhallot)
If your antivirus and windows based machine is
updated you should have no problems , Strongly suggested not to use IE
, use firefox if you can. Seems like most AV companies updated on this
were from Sept.19-21st , Microsoft has a update for this , but its not
til around Oct.10th.
I am writing this not to scare anyone but just giving a heads up
due to the fact it can contain code to sniff network traffic,
monitoring all your FTP, POP3, IMAP, and ICQ traffic. This traffic is
combed for logins and passwords, which are encrypted for transport
using crypt32.dll - the Windows Cryptography API. This won't catch bank
passwords, but it will allow whoever receives the information to read
and send email from your non-webmail accounts (connecting to Yahoo via
IMAP or POP3 doesn't count as webmail , there have also been reports of
keylogger installations , Antivirus Systems not picking up ALL part of
this issue , Denial of service attacks and Internet Explorer constantly
crashing..
