PAXLAIR - June 2, 1999 - Scribe Griffon
I do not often get to PaxLair but when I do, I make it a
point to visit the Ladies there now. Ye may recall that I wrote to you about
Aurora not long ago, well I thought I should check up on her, and I fear I
have missed a lot. Her tale I shall relate here shortly, but I must
apologize for it's length even as such I have cut much out, so if you have
any questions, I encourage you to seek out those involved and ask them of
it.
The doors of the Ladies of the Lair tavern opened very early, though most
patrons were still sleeping of a night of good food and wine, Aurora was
cleaning up early with the sunrise, when another early riser came in. She
looked like she had not even slept that night, but was clutching a well read
and ancient tome. She introduced herself as Cattica, a mage of some sort by
the dress of clothes she wore. Aurora welcomed her warmly as she tries to do
with all guests, and asked how she could help. This surprised the mage for
some reason, so Aurora explained that this is what the lair does, helps
weary travelers forget about their troubles. Cattica said "Very well I need
to find many things, but have not the time to get them and study this book
both, I need them by Tuesday Evening" Aurora agreed to help even before
hearing what she needed. "Here is what I need:" she said reading from the
book.
100 of each magical reagent
20 Dust from Golems
15 Corpser Hats
10 Reaper Skins
5 Bones of the Magi
3 Black Hearts of the Lords of the Liches
1 Vial of Blood from the ladies that heal
and tears from the lady of the forest.
Aurora was taken aback by such a large request but she had said she would
try. Cattica suggested sharing the list with the patrons that visited the
lair, and left, still reading the book. Aurora finished cleaning up, and
waited for some to arrive. Sir Kyle of the Knights of PaxLair was the first
that showed up, and left quickly to return with the 100 reagents and some of
the other items he had. He gave them to NightzAngel to care for in the back.
Aurora shared the list with many whom visited that day, but the last two
items seemed to cause the most concern. Then Sir Zanthor pointed out that
the Ladies of the Lair were always healing folk, and they did have such a
vial of blood sitting on a shelf. With that one found it appeared that there
might be hope.
Aurora received news that day, that her mother had been found, it was
bitter-sweet news, for she had been located in Yew but they were separated
forever, as the Yew she was found on was on another world called Atlantic.
Her name was Silver, and she was a Dryad and a teacher.
Among the guests the next eve was a bard named Jhym, it was during one of
his many performances that he sung a tune about the Oracle of the Forest,
and in it there was mention of the tears of the lady. But the forest oracle
was said to be hard to reach. Aurora said she must seek the Oracle, for she
wanted to know what a Dryad was, as her friends had suggested the Oracle
would know. A group was formed and they traveled to the Maze. In the maze
they met and made friends with some that lived in the maze, but no word was
found of the oracle. Jhym led them to a temple, where he had met the oracle
once but the temple was silent. A beekeeper, upon hearing Aurora's questing
suggested then not give up hope, and due to the lateness of the eve, they
agreed to return the next day.
Monday night came, and none of the guests of the previous night had shown
up, Aurora feared that she would miss the Oracle, implored Lord Darius a
dark Knight to help. He agreed to transport and protect her to the maze with
his magic. Just as the gate opened from the PaxLair Tower, Sir Zanthor
showed up and joined them. In the maze again they began the search, but the
dark Knight disappeared, so Aurora and Zanthor went on to the temple.
The temple had to have some magic in it that night, for while they
waited, Zanthor and Aurora talked alone for a good amount of time. Aurora's
heart was touched deeply when Zanthor declared that he would seek to find
her father, so that he could ask for her hand in marriage. Aurora thought
she saw the oracle, but the oracle disappeared before she could be sure.
Shortly after that the friends they had met the day before showed up and
Zanthor left her in their care.
In the forest outside the maze, at a fairy ring lit up by torches, what
can best be described as forest guardians were gathered. In the center of
this ring did appear the Oracle to talk with Aurora. Aurora first did ask on
behalf of the mage Cattica, for the tears, a most powerful magic. The Oracle
agreed when Aurora accepted responsibility for their care. Second she asked
what a dryad was, but she only said that the Oracle told her more than she
wished to know.
It seems Aurora has more than one suitor now, and I can only hope that
should her father be found that I could attend the wedding. I apologize for
the lateness of this report, but I fear that I had too much wine this last
evening and am suffering from the hair of the dog that bit me.
