The City of Paxlair contains many Points of Interest.  A few of them are listed here.

The Bells of PaxLair

The Bells of PaxLair

The Festival Courtyard offers great outdoor seating for any type of engagement. Anyone may use the Festival Courtyard at any time for any event. Prior reservations are not necessary.

The Bells of PaxLair were constructed by artisans to aid in the calling of people to gatherings in PaxLair. The bells do not yet ring, but they symbolize the tradition of gatherings in PaxLair. The bells also symbolize the city's balance between chaos and order. Notably, the colors of the bells are reversed from the colors of the twin towers of order and and chaos, thus showing balance.

The PaxLair Arena

The PaxLair Arena

The arena in PaxLair offers an enclosed area to help protect the fighters during duels and tournaments. It is open at all times for anyone to use.

Protection is not foolproof, however, since the normal laws of Lord British apply between the fighters. That is, fighting between innocents will cause one of the combatants to be labeled as an aggressor. There are no special features of the arena to prevent violation of Lord British's laws in the wilderness. A simple approach to prevent inadvertent reporting of murders to Lord British's court is for both combatants to first attack the arena judge, then engage in their duel.

Any person interfering with or violating rules within the arena is a gross act of misconduct within the city. The arena is only as safe as the people of all backgrounds wish to make it. In other words, the arena works well if all people respect the fighters and allow them to duel honorably.

The city laws dictate that all fighting take place only within the arena's walls. Fights outside the arena and within the city is a crime and may be dealt with harshly by vigilant townsfolk, Knights, and evil/good mercenaries.

The city can support formal tournaments with procedures that will aid the tournament organizers. Those interested in such things should contact one of the Chancellors.

The Fire Monument

The Peaceful Fire Monument

The Fire Monument at the west end of the Twin Towers is a mysterious structure of stone and fire. Many have attempted to uncover its mysteries with some attempts leading to death and destruction.

Not much is known about the Fire Monument except that it holds powers that mere mortals or even undead can not yet comprehend. The monument erupted from the ground suddenly in a realm shattering earthquake when the second twin tower was built in PaxLair. Did we unearth an unholy spirit? Or did we unearth a benevolent one? Does a spirit lie within it, or is it an ancient monument to an unknown god?

A not so Peaceful Fire Monument during a Wraith Ritual

Not so long ago, wraiths tried to bring forth their dark father from another plane by channeling the unseen forces of the Fire Monument. The people of the city watched anxiously on as Uuban carried out a dark and dreadful ritual. The people stayed their weapons at the command of Auldrek until the right point in the ritual. At that moment, the townsfolk sprung forward to slay the wraiths, but the fire monument spewed forth an unusually huge number of wraiths, skeletons, spectres, liches, and other undead. Did the wraiths channel enough of the Fire Monument's energy to call upon their undead bretheren, or did the Fire Monument do this on its own? We do not know the answer.

In the aftermath, it was reasoned the townsfolk gathered courage and hope from the Spring of Courage to counter-balance the wraiths' ritual. The wraiths were beaten back to their tower in a distant part of the continent, but we believe they shall return once they have developed a new strategy to bring their dark father into our realm of existence.

Some townsfolk also find the Fire Monument to be a pleasant picnic area.

The Orc Fort

Many Orcs in the Olag Hai Orc Fort

The  Orc Fort is not officially a part of PaxLair, as it is located northeast of PaxLair along the main road toward Vesper. It is not far, only a few paces to the guard house before the bridge and then north a few more paces.

The Kaar Barashalu Orc Clan though is clearly an integral part of the PaxLair community, be that good, bad, or a bit smelly.

If you venture to the orc fort, remember to offer a tribute of some gold to their god as you enter the fort. The orcs may leave you alone and even give you a tour. Watch out for the cage though! They may try to lure you into it and then clomp you.

It is also best to stay on your horse. The orcs always seem to have a kettle of horse stew brewing in the fort. Yumm.

Remains Discovered during the Digging

Orcish Artifacts

On January 15, 1999 the orcs and humans performed a digging at a recently discovered ruin in PaxLair near the Order Tower. The human Caliphate was the digger and found the remains of an Orcish Temple. Spirits were awoken during the digging and attacked the orcs, humans, and other beings present.

After more deliberate digging, Caliphate uncovered various artifacts to include orcish armor, weapons, bones, and a book written by a human ranger Bilzen. Bilzen was the writer of the first book dealing with the history of the orcs, and this appeared to be his concluding book. The book told of how the old orcish clan died off and uninfected ones had to leave the meadow which is now PaxLair. In the time the orcs were gone, humans moved into the vacant meadow and colonized the meadow.

The long struggle between orcs and humans in the PaxLair area was lessened in those days as former-Mayor Winfield payed tribute to the Olag Hai Orcs. The Mayor declared January 15th as an orcish holiday in PaxLair and that their ruins and new orc temple would remain sacred at all times.

The Orc Shaman watches over the Temple of the Wargod and the ruins. The Orc Shaman is very wise and has learned many things that were passed down from generations of orc shaman.

The Tacitus Memorial Library

Tacitus Memorial Library

The Tacitus Memorial Library, named after the second PaxLair librarian, contains many books. The library is located on the second floor of the Twin Tower of Order. Many books are on display within the bookshelves and many more are archived in the ethereal library archive.

The library was started by Silvart when PaxLair was young. She had the impossible task of scribing many books within the library. Later, Tacitus expanded the library immensely, making it one of the largest in all of the realm.

Memories of Seer Daemeon
Seer Daemeon Cures the Spring of Knowledge

A special section of the library is a tribute and memorial to Seer Daemeon, who gave up his immortal and then mortal life to bring PaxLair hope against the evil Mazrim. Daemeon's sacrifice cured the Spring of Knowledge in front of the Order Tower and turned it into the Spring of Courage. Daemeon's books are on display in the alcove of the library.

We will forever treasure the works of Seer Daemeon and look to his books for understanding, hope, and courage.

The Spring of Courage

The Spring of Knowledge on June 21, 1998

The Spring of Courage, formerly called the Spring of Knowledge, is the most historic and notable attraction in PaxLair. It's history has involved Mazrim, collection of souls, release of souls, sacrifices, strange ghostly appearances, and courage.

Discovery of the Spring

The waters of the spring were discovered by Lady Winmere on June 21, 1998 when she pulled a sapling from the ground in front of the Mage Tower. The Realm's craftsmen quickly surrounded the waters with a simple stone wall. The spring became officially known as the Spring of Knowledge to commemorate those who seek knowledge in neutrality within the Realm.

Spring is Cursed by Mazrim

The Spring is Desecrated by Mazrim and Undead Walk the Streets

One week later something vile happened to the Spring of Knowledge. An evil being known as Mazrim swept through PaxLair and cursed the lovely spring. The spring turned blood red and overflowed onto the grounds. A gravestone marked a curse upon the spring, being engraved by Mazrim's own hand.

For nearly a full year, the cursed spring symbolized terror and pure, unbalanced evil within PaxLair. Many souls were ripped from their bodies and placed within the spring. At times, the spring would spew forth spirits and undead to raise havoc on the peaceful people of PaxLair.

Curing of the Spring - a Supreme Sacrifice

Seer Daemeon casts his Spell

On May 7, 1999, there came new hope. Seer Daemeon appeared and tested the people of PaxLair. He had the people gather three ingredients for a special spell. We did not know the significance of Seer Daemeon's quest until all the ingredients were obtained and he approached the spring.

Once he approached the spring and started an incantation, what we saw amazed everyone, evil and good alike. The power of Deameon's spell was cast directly at the bloody spring. The spring erupted in a mountain of flame and souls could be heard escaping from Mazrim's bondage. When the area quieted, we found the spring bright blue again and the evil gravestone turned to dust.

Seer Daemeon's Essence within the Spring

Yet, the joy was met with sorrow as we looked upon Seer Daemeon's body lying at the foot of the cured spring. It became all too clear to us that Seer Daemeon selflessly gave his immortal being and then his mortal body to save PaxLair from Mazrim. Then, for a brief moment, we saw something amazing. The Essence of Seer Daemeon appeared within the bright blue waters of the spring and smiled upon us.

More Seers appeared, approached the spring, and meditated at the spring. Silent prayers of peace and hope were made as we reached out to Seer Daemeon's essence. We know Seer Daemeon is always with us in PaxLair, watching over us, and giving us hope. We commemorate his life and his works in our PaxLair library today.

Staff of Seer Daemeon

The Staff of Seer Daemeon

During the evening of Seer Daemeon's fateful sacrifice at the spring, Seer Daemeon called Mayor Winfield forward briefly before the Seer carried out the curing spells.

He presented to Mayor Winfield his personal staff and whispered words that this powerful staff would remain connected to Daemeon's essence within the Spring for all eternity. The Mayor reverently took the staff, felt its power, and held it humbly and with courage.

In days to follow, Mayor Winfield realized the staff had power to bring courage to people, thwart the powers of the Wraiths, and link his own soul to the waters of the Spring of Courage.

Investigation of the Spring of Courage

Over time, the Spring of Courage has been investigated by many scientists. A notable scientist Chester Silyus discovered an underground stream feeding the spring. This Stream of Courage appears to flow from NW to SE through PaxLair. Further research indicated the waters of the Spring are identical to the waters in Lake Hammerfell in Haven, clear across the Britannian continent. The exact path and nature of the Spring of Courage is not known to us and investigations continue.

In January 2000, a Spring of Peace appeared in Aryslan. Scientist have not yet sampled the waters and compared it with the Spring of Courage.

We believe the Stream of Courage is very strong with courage and hope at the Spring's location in PaxLair. As one progresses further from the Spring along the unknown course of the stream, the power of Seer Daemeon's essence lessens.

Renewed Interest in the Spring of Courage

Recent uprisings of Mazrim in the town of Aryslan brings renewed interest in the Spring of Courage. As of early October 2000, Dragons of Aethyri have appeared in the Realm:

  1. Zephyr, a Wind Dragon who aids Aryslan against Mazrim and Zyrn;
  2. Esheni, a Water Dragon inhabiting Lake Hammerfell in Haven who may have interest in the Spring of Courage;
  3. Pyrenus, a Fire Dragon who has attacked Aryslan;
  4. and perhaps a fourth dragon... an Earth Dragon that some speculate is Skorr from the Dragar Defeat.

The Spring of Courage Remains PaxLair's Most Historic Element

The Spring of Courage continues to be the most historic element of PaxLair's history, and we honor Seer Daemeon and all those who have quested in the Realm.

PaxLair Stables on Chesapeake

Last visited by Azazel - July 04 99

PaxLair was heavily sponsored!  PaxLair  received two connected towers (via teleport), several large fountains, and additional things to enhance the beauty of the city. Also, among the  gifts from the Gods, PaxLair  received it's very own animal trainer. Before the stables were sponsored they were just a wooden fence which people would park their animals inside of. However, because of the sponsoring, the stables have Alana who will charge 30 gold per pet for a real week's stable time. People can now stable their horses and other pets before attending a wedding or other event PaxLair so frequently has.
