Subject: The Bat's Eye Potion

Returning to my home early this morning, I noted with alarm that someone had impaled a hastily written note onto my table with a dagger of Vanquishing. The note 'suggested' that I might need to contact Wizzie regarding something called the...

*Bat's Eye Potion*

Investigating the Towers of Paxlair, I found a book, by a Very Old Mage, that detailed some of the things that Wizzie might have undertaken to complete a quest to cure others of a specific poison or sickness, which involved the mantra, 'Durn'. A sample of the potion also seemed to be present with the book.

Stop by and read the text for yourself, but if you do not have time, you can read it here:

The Bat's Eye Potion
by
A Very Old Mage

The Bat's Eye potion is one of the most potent potions for curing diseases.

This potion must only be used when the poison or sickness is fully diagnosed by a mage who knows and understands the essense of the mantra 'Durn'.

Also, the mage must perform a ritual of healing and curing over the individual before applying the potion. When the sickness is revealed by such a mage and the precautionary measures are taken, as stated above, then the victim may drink the potion.

But beware! The victim may immediately convulse and spit, and spin around like a crazy person. This is normal and do not be alarmed.

Once the potion starts to take effect, then the victim will enter a comatose state for about five minutes. Then the victim will come to his or her senses, stand up, and look around.

However, the victim will see a rainbow in the distance to the East. The victim should be asked if he or she sees the rainbow to confirm the potion has taken effect in neutralizing the poison or sickness.

If the victim does not go through the above steps, then the potion is ineffective.

Using the potion on a victim improperly or for the wrong poisons or illnesses can lead to temporary loss of eyesight or hearing. The effects can last for a few moments to a few weeks depending on the constitution of the victim.

Take care in using this potion. It is only for the appropriate poisons and sicknesses. Remember, a mage who knows the proper mantra and its meaning can properly diagnose the illness needing this rare potion.

Oh... additional potions of the Bat's Eye can be made from previously prepared potions, but sometimes it is not successful and can cause unforseen side effects upon the victim.

The origional Bat's Eye potion can be created as follows:

- Obtain a Bat's Eye

- Obtain dew from forests in the new lands

- Let the dew sit on the eye for awhile in sunlight and let it evaporate

- Go to a graveyard and find a skeletal undead's bones and crush them

- Find a special leaf from a dark plant. This is the most difficult thing to find and you may need a wise Orc to aid you

- Apply Orc ale to the leaf at room temperature

- Fold the ingredients (the eye and the crushed bones) into the plant leaf

- Have a mage, as described before, who knows and understands the essence of this mantra, say the mantra 'Durn', over the mixture. [Note: be careful of imposter mages who do not know the true essence of this mantra, for the potion will definately cause ill side-effects or even death of the victim who drinks the potion! Be careful of what mage you select]

- A Black potion should appear nearby. This is the Bat's Eye potion. Guard it carefully, it is rare and very useful!

A FINAL NOTE:

Read and heed this tome well, for it may save or kill you and others.

hmmmm. I wonder what specific illnesses and diseases this potion is used for? I will have to ask Wizzie some questions when I see him!
