Role of Council (related to other roles in PaxLair)Within the continuing vision of involvement of many people in PaxLair, there are now three aspects to the official representation within PaxLair and the realm.
BackgroundStarting on October 11, 1999, 16 people came together from all sorts of backgrounds in the realm to help establish the framework for the PaxLair Council. Mayor Winfield asked for volunteers who were interested in helping frame the council. He did not approach anyone to be on the framers group because he sought to see who would show interest and lean forward. He sought to have the framers come together freely without expectation, and led by their own energies and ideas. The Mayor was most pleased at the diversity of people interested in aiding PaxLair with the council concept. Many of the framers were not of PaxLair itself, but regular visitors or those who do much for the entire shard. Over several weeks the framers met several times and discussed concepts of a large council, small council, authorities, advisor roles, events creation ideas, and membership. On November 5, their framework tasks were completed and a starting Council was selected through a collaboration of ideas, goals, and visions for PaxLair. The starting council membership does in fact involve many of the framers who wish to continue the work of developing this council by carrying out and testing their ideas within our town. A few seats were still open to offer an even larger cross section of interest in PaxLair. The council is responsible for its own membership, and the membership can change over time at their discretion. On November 11, the council membership was announced at a ceremony in the North Tower of PaxLair behind Luigi's Pizzeria and the Saloon. Speeches were given by the Mayor and Marilla to explain more about the council's role. The floor was then opened for question and answer. The north tower is designated the public building for the council and the building also holds a residence and the meeting place for the PaxLair Knights (PxK). Quote from Mayor Winfield: I do sincerely believe the addition of a PaxLair council to our
overall town framework is a good move. All three aspects of official
representation in PaxLair involve people from a variety of backgrounds,
interests, guilds, and groups. That is the PaxLair way.
PaxLair is not a guild town or a closed town requiring membership to become
involved in various things. Anyone can participate. The council is designed
to help people participate and grab their dreams to turn them into reality.
