The Spring and Stream of Courage Investigation

I approached the Spring of Courage in front of the Order Tower in PaxLair the other day and felt a surge of energy. I quickly recounted the day when Seer Daemeon sacrificed himself for the sake of all in the lands and cured the Spring of Mazrim's touch. From that day forward, the Spring of Knowledge became known as the Spring of Courage. It has offered strength to all who meditate upon Seer Daemeon's essence still within the Spring.

As I stood next to the Spring, someone brought me a message from Chester Silyus, our PaxLair Scientist. I heard in recent days Chester had an accident during one of his experiments. Much to my relief, this message told me he had recovered and will be back in PaxLair investigating the Spring and Stream of Courage. We believe the waters of the Spring are an opening to an underground stream of unknown course and nature.

Aphra Ben Morg arrived and told me he too would be investigating the Stream. Then a courier arrived and delivered a scroll to me. I read additional names of those researching the Stream: Nebuchadnezzar and Nightwing. I also recalled that Korin the Scribe of Haven already has some theories about the Stream of Courage and underground streams.

As I wandered for a couple of hours in thought around PaxLair, I recollected past histories and occurences, trying to tie together my knowledge to create some theories.

One such occurence was when the wraiths attempted to perform a ritual at the Fire Monument near the PaxLair Twin Tower of Chaos. This turned into a Victory in PaxLair. Warriors and mages averted this ritual and prevented the wraiths from bringing forth their Dark Father into our realm. I surmised one of the reasons for their failure was not just the strength and intelligence of the warriors and mages, but the enormous courage emanating from the underground Stream of Courage in the PaxLair area.

Sitting near the Spring, I developed some new theories about the Stream of Courage:

I believe the everlasting presence of the essence of Seer Daemeon within the Spring is the primary source of strength by which the underground Stream gets its power of Courage. Courageous power dissipates at varying levels from the Spring of Courage to the underground Stream along an unknown path. The Courageous power might take a selective course along the underground Stream for various reasons. The power might be strong at some points, and weaker or non-existent at others.

The essence of Seer Daemeon in the Spring provides a very strong yet perhaps not completely infallible protection against entry or influence into this portion of the Stream. Seer Daemeon's essence also protects against long-term unbalancing effects in PaxLair.

The waters of the Stream may be connected to all the waters in the land, or maybe none. The Spring itself is not the source of the water nor the end; it is merely an opening to the waters below. Korin the Scribe has theories a Web of Life forms the connection of many underground streams, with each stream originating at a different Shrine. And Scientist Chester Silyus believes the Stream of Courage feeds Lake Hammerfell in Haven which is a some distance from PaxLair.

Much more investigation is still needed to understand the the Stream of Courage and its effect on Balance, Order, and Chaos within the realm. Evil and good may seek to use the Stream for their own purposes against their foes. The same is probably true of those following the principles of Order and Chaos. Such is the way of people and beings within our land. Determining the Stream's course and tapping into its Courage is probably not simple; one must know how to detect and harness its energies and then understand its influence on us.
