September 12th
Friday, a small group of Mayor Winfield's close friends gathered to see him off. Winfield was leaving the realm for ten days, and was appointing Tycho Veg, Chancellor of PaxLair, acting Mayor of the town, for the time being. Winfield also had a few other matters to discuss.
Winfield starts his speech, "Hail all my friends. As some of you may know, I am leaving the realm for a short time. I am venturing on a pleasant quest of my own to re-establish my roots, my history, and my ideals in a far away land. I will look inwardly upon myself and return once again to you in several days from now, perhaps an octave worth, maybe more. I turn now to Tycho Veg, Tinker and Chancellor of PaxLair.
Tycho Veg, my friend and confidant, you have served this town very well as my Chancellor and you have been acting Mayor at times while I have been called away. This time, though is significant because there is much this town is doing and we are all moving forward in many ways. Tycho, I have known you a long time and your judgement has been unparalleled by anyone, even myself. I do not wish to place a burden upon you, yet I do want people to recognize my personal trust and faith in your leadership. The staff I carry is a very personal staff to me, given to me by Seer Daemon himself on his last moments in this realm. This is not the staff of a mayor, but the staff of a leader. A leader with vision and purpose to be balanced, courageous, and thoughtful in all things that come before him. During my time away, I will give you the Staff of Seer Daemon as a symbol of my trust and recognition in your abilities to serve this wonderful community. After I received this staff, and Seer Daemon's eternal essence was cast into the Fountain of Courage near the mage tower, the others seers of the realm came to me and told me to use this staff wisely in honor of Seer Daemon, his life, and his goals of bringing people together in this realm. I have tried to do this and am confident you also will do this in my absence.
Tycho, take the Staff of Seer Daemon now and use it wisely as a symbol of balance as you carry out the duties of acting Mayor and as a symbol that people will see I have my full personal trust and faith in you. You may return the staff to me when I return from my retreat."
Tycho Veg responded, "I can only hold it for a short time..."
Winfield continued, "Yours now Tycho in my time away, as you are a leader also of this community. You honor these people with your own efforts here. They are the gold here. Thank you Acting Mayor Tycho Veg, my friend."
Tycho Veg says thank you, "Thank you."

Winfield had more to say, "I would also like to make a presentation to this saloon [building behind Pax's fighting arena]. This saloon is an important part of PaxLair. It is not a guild, not a close place, but one open to all people who come [except poobear, he was banned 'cause he kept rudely interrupting]. The bar staff are not a guild, some are not even citizens. They serve the community as leaders in their own right and ways.
Trudie, the bard from PxP. She left her harp for the people of PaxLair. I will ask that the personal harp of Trudie be placed here. She has left the realm and she will be remembered. I honor her with the harp due to her commitment to the arts. There will be many songs sung and bards to use this harp. Soon it will be installed in this front room. For now perhaps in the back room until that time."
