From Misterie, Wizards of PaxLair:
First, allow me to introduce myself, I am Misterie, Historian of the
Wizards of PaxLair. Recently, I have been working on reforming the Wizards in
service to the Avatar. The Avatar is a legendary hero who has time and again
been called upon by Lord British when Britannia has faced its greatest needs.
In gathering together all the historical records, and secrets that I could
find, I came across a rather disturbing sight.
To explain, the Avatar taught three basic principles, those of Truth, Courage
and Love. These principles were needed to defeat the immortal beings known as
the Shadowlords. What many do not realize is that these principles, emodied in
the Flames of Truth, Courage and Love, were used to forge the very Shrines of
the Virtues we now hold dear. So, my study of these principles, would
necessarily cause me to study the Virtues, as well.
Another point to bear in mind, is the rather sharp increase in violence and
other manifestations of Hatred that have become ever so prevalent across the
lands. Originally, like most, I just attributed this to human nature. My
discover seems to dispute that. In visiting the shrines to complete my latest
ritual, I noticed that the Shrine of Compassion, that Forged of Love and Love
alone, was not right. The symbol of Compassion, the heart, had apparently
turned upon itself, reversing it from the viewer. All other shrines, display
their symbol to any that stand and face their Ankh. The shrine of Compassion
does not, it faces away.
As my primary studies have been on the principles and not the Virtues, I
called upon a friend, and learned scholar, Brother Derlic of Empath Abbey for
his assessment of the situation. He feels, as do I, that this is indeed an ill
omen. Such a weakening of the Virtue, of Love, could open a pathway for the
Shadowlord, whose name I will mention, to enter into our realm. That is if it
has not done so already. Our fear is that it may have, as it would explain the
Hatred that we have all borne witness to as of late.
To correct the problem is no small task, however. According to the legends,
the Avatar was able to defeat the Shadowlords by using the power held within
the name of each, to summon them to the Flame of its opposite. And so, Hatred
was consumed in the Flame of Love, Falsehood in the Flame of Truth, and
Cowardice in the Flame of Courage. Although the legends have revealed their
names, the Flames no longer burn. I have heard tales, that the power of the
original flames were bound into artifacts of great power, A book, A bell, and
A candle. It is my hope, that we can use the power of such an artifact to
correct this problem. But where to start. I chose here.
Should any know the whereabouts of the Candle of Love, or have any clue as to
where to begin the search for it, please contact either Brother Derlic or
myself. I can be found at the above address, or wandering through PaxLair.
