Counselor's Gala A Success

Submitted by Jhym:

The Counselor's Appreciation Gala was held on Monday night, and was a rousing success. At least 25 junior, senior, very senior, and arch senior counselors from many different worlds made the journey.

The gods placed a small podium for those speaking to talk to the large crowd. For an hour the smaller gods wandered the area talking to the assembled masses, some of whom had never seen such gods. Even a small group of Orks were surprised when several of the sky gods spoke perfect orkish!

Luigi laid out a nice spread and for the most part the night was enjoyed by many. The air was quite thick throughout the area, but most folk took it in stride and settled upon a stool or laid out upon the grass to watch the spectacle.

There were several speeches, one by Mayor Winfield, another by Mayor SortsAngel of Corwyn, and one by Senior counselor Rmageddon (I think it was senior, maybe arch senior? I got lost in all the titles...) I was able to sing a song for the assembled counselors, and the praises for their hard work rained from the crowd.

One fellow jumped up to announce he thought PaxLair should have an election for a new mayor; whether this was valid or not, the occasion was for the counselors and most felt the fellow should have picked a different forum for his suggestion.

All in all, a good night to show the appreciation that we have for those helpful folks in blue and purple and black.

For those who didn't hear it, the song that was sung:

"Counselor's Lament"

Wandering the wood, one fine day
I chanced upon a golden pool,
I tripped upon a mossy rock
and fell in like a fool.

As I reached the bottom
I turned and hit my head
I thought I saw stars
But it was a gate instead!

Swimming through the gate
I fell into a room
strewn with rows of boxes
and racks of robes of blue.

"A Counselor's store" I thought, amazed,
"I wonder what it's like,
to wander the world so wide
and save people from their strife!"

Donning a robe I entered the gate
and waded from the pool
My skin took on a bluish shade
I felt just like a ghoul.

Wandering the wood I reached a man,
his brow was red with rage,
"Tell me now why does my skill
not grow faster, blue robed page!"

"Patience is virtuous,"
I said to his reddened eyes,
"Try to take a break,
perhaps watching the calming skies."

"Useless you are you cyan tweak,"
He waved his hands most threateningly;
I faded at my hurried "Good bye!"
As his spell expanded around me.

In a wink I was beside a lady
dark eyes and frustrated moan;
"Oh dear blue one, tell me please,
how to place my home!"

I looked about the place she stood
and could see nothing blocking
"Perhaps another place would do"
I said as she threw a stocking.

"No, this place it must must be,"
she howled in loud despair,
"Make it fit or I shall rip
off your arms and legs and hair!"

Shivering in all my bluish tone
I suggested a spot nearby,
then winked out quickly before her threat
just after my quick 'good bye'.

Now I appeared beside the golden pool
wiping my brow of bluish sweat
I jumped back in and through the gate
dropping off the robe so wet.

A counselor's life was not for me
I'd not wish it on anyone
I doff my cap and wave my ale
at a job so very well done.
