Seeking of the Maid
Submitted by Celeste Lunari of Shadowcove:
Last Saturday evening I was summoned by her Royal Highness Queen Morgaine of
Shadowcove. When I arrived I was told that The Gatekeeper had visited the fair
kingdom. He said he was very pleased with the prosperity of Shadowcove. He gave
his blessing to the kingdom, and it's queen saying, "Your Destiny is going to be
remarkable. Rule well. I shall observe."
Winfield, the old mayor of Paxlair was present. He told of how he and The
Gatekeeper had traveled together been companions for several months. They had
gone to the underworld and back. He then told the legend of The Maid. The Maid
would be known for her actions and would enter the realm as a child. She will
seek out a noble. Winfield wondered if the noble mentioned by the legend
mentioned might perhaps be Morgaine. The legend also said that the child would
be taught by a priest or a monk. Winfield wondered if the Kingdom had any
priests. Morgaine told him of her High Priestess Cerridwyn, and myself, the high
priestess of Lucidia and Sorcell.
The Gatekeeper told us we would need to venture to Yew to find the village of
Lontish. Queen Morgaine, Lord Panzram, Maximus, the Queen's guard, Taliesan, who
was assisting us in understanding The Gatekeeper, and I went to Yew. In one of
the libraries of Empath Abbey we found a book and a map.
The book said:
This map leads to the village of Lontish which is south of Yew. At the time
of this writing, Lontish is under attack. The villagers made statements about
moving the village. I fear the current village of Lontish is now or will soon be
a ruin. Where the village would have moved to is unknown to me.
I began my studies as a scribe in Yew and was familiar with the area. For that
reason I was given the map, and with the aid of the stars, handmaidens of my
goddesses, I was able to lead the party to the runes within the forest of Yew.
When we got there we met up with and adventurer named Claudio, a warrior in
training who is endeavoring to become a paladin of Helm. He joined our group and
we found a faded text containing the Chronicles of Lontish and a new map which
lead to the new village.
The text read as follows:
...crumpled pages
...Our move is completed to the new village houses on the peninsula. Fishing and
farming are good. The livestock is getting fat
...fire started by the invaders again, driving us to the fortress beyond our old
village ruins. Will they not leave us in peace! talk about the coming of the
Maid. When will she arrive? Who is she? Lontish needs her, the people need her.
This constant fighting is wearing upon us...
...crumpled pages
...recovered from the fortress once more and repaired our damaged homes…
...crumpled pages and burnt pages…
Once again I begged assistance from the goddesses and with the aid of the stars
and the map we found the village in good time. In the wood we met a carpenter
named Jacque. "The legend of The Maid was more than 100 years old," he said, but
he did not believe it to be true. His people were starving, and continued to be
attacked, but they had seen no sign of The Maid. We bespoke Jacque to tell us
all he knew of the maid and he produced a book. It was the prophecy of the
coming of The Maid.
It said:
I have a prophecy. Note what I am compelled to tell you and remember it well.
Change will occur like the wind. Not from a storm, but from a sealed door
opening from within. A girl will step through the door and enter the Realm.
You will not know her for sometime. Then she will be known by her actions and
visions. She will be known as the Maid.
She will come to lead those who would follow. She will present the people with a
noble of the Realm in the end.
Bear in mind a prophecy has many paths to reach its end. And the time to travel
such paths is unknown for now. Signs will happen in the days and months ahead.
Written by: The Gatekeeper
We wondered what the signs mentioned might be. Jacque knew a bit more than what
was mention in the book.
"The maid will enter the realm as written in the prophecy before you. The maid
will have golden hair. You will not know her name. She will be a child. She will
need a monk or priest to teach her of the problems of the realm. She will lead
the people of the realm to a great victory. She will bring to the realm a noble
worthy of respect and honor. In the weeks ahead, you will all become a part of
her future and her past, and The Gatekeeper will be your guide"
Morgaine promised Jacque that she would send patrols and other aid to his
village. Jacque suggested that we might return to the runes we had located
before, and perhaps we would find some other clue there. We left to the runes
through a moongate and when we arrived we found that The Gatekeeper was already
waiting for us there. He asked if we had found The Maid. When we answered he
told us of a red dragon named Mylanth. It was protected by one known as
Stromchaser. Then he told us of another dragon. This one was a male and brownish
in color. We needed to find this dragon and bring it under our control, and then
have it aid us in killing three red dragons. Between the dragons we would
discover two more keys to the coming of The Maid. After taming the dragon we
were to return to Shadowcove. Until the dragon was found he could offer us no
more information.
None of our party was skilled in capturing a dragon, though the queen was able
to control him so our party went to the city of Britain to find someone who
could assist us. We found a man named Niko who agreed to assist our party at no
charge. He took us to The Daemon Temple on The Isle of the Avatar. We waited for
a long time until at last a brown dragon appeared. Niko tamed him and after
giving him many thanks we returned to The Halls of Havoc in Shadowcove.
The Gatekeeper appeared and said, "Your courage is great in bringing forth the
mighty male Grey Dragon. You are worthy of the quest for the Maid of Lontish. I
can not speak much, but know that the Dragon's name is "Salanth." Salanth is
another key to bringing forth the Maid into the realm. Coupled with Mylanth, the
female Red Dragon, these dragons will be needed. Exactly how, only they will
reveal at the proper moment. Keep Salanth safe. Do not let him die no matter
what the cost. Yet keep him exercised or he will grow weak. In time ahead, seek
out the one who protects Mylanth. Learn more and offer your knowledge. Know that
you are on a quest of great magnitude and possibilities. Do not expect all
things to happen quickly. You yourselves can make what is to come happen, and in
what manner. Chronicle your knowledge to the realm as much as possible. For that
is how I will know you are on the right path. This is all I can tell you this
day."
The Gatekeeper disappeared. We knew that Stromchaser resided in Paxlair. We
vowed to find her and Mylanth, but the day had been long. We bid adieu to each
other and our new found reptilian companion till until the time when we would
locate the other dragon.
