PaxLair Meeting and the Triathalon
Occured on: July 26, 2004
Reported by Winmere

Prior to the town meeting, I turned over to John McBain a door prize that Kain had won at the grand opening of the PaxLair Town Hall. Kain had left before the prizes were handed out at the end of that night. John offered to deliver the prize to Kain.

I spoke with Rebecca, who was there, representing Nidaros. John McBain inquired about the location of Nidaros, and if it was in Trammel, or Felucca. He was informed that Nidaros is in Trammel, located along the Skara Road. We discussed past events in Nidaros, and future plans that the Nidaros' inhabitants have for revitalizing their town. It is always nice to see a city come alive again.

Including those who arrived late, those present for the meeting were Rebecca, John McBain, King Id, Braden Mason, Monk, Cross MacLeod, Earl, Mayor Minsk, Neo of Lothlore, DoomFyre, and Winmere.

Thor's Day Night's Adventure

John McBain made a suggestion for Thor's Day Night's Adventure group. I asked how accessible this location was, and he assured me he has a rune there. I suggested that he come to the Thor's Day Night's Adventure group and bring his rune. He agreed.

More Participation in PaxLair

John McBain suggested that PaxLair should hold more events in Felucca, instead of Trammel. I pointed out that there are not many of us left, to which John replied the problem can be solved by letting more people into PaxLair. Rebecca said she will try to get more people from Nidaros to visit PaxLair, and John said that was not exactly what he meant. John suggested that guilds who have pledged themselves to PaxLair and have tried to help PaxLair, and have proven themselves over and over, should somehow be included in the PaxLair government. Give more representation to those who love the town. Perhaps add a House of Lords and House of Commons and let more people in on the decision making. DoomFyre reminded everyone that the Mayor is Monarch.

John continued, by saying that many different guilds come to meetings and events, but none are represented on the councils, or anything. Braden said that many have duties in other areas, to which John replied, yes, but those who want to serve in some capacity, something should be found for them to do. I suggested that perhaps the Mayor could appoint Chancellors again, to which DoomFyre responded with, "That is the Mayor's perogative, is it not?"

Braden asked what Chancellors do, but John continued, adding, "People come in and get excited about the town, and one month later they are gone. They don't feel a part of it. We need to reach out to other groups. There are towns and groups that still operate in Felucca. We, as a group, should get them here. We need some sort of group, or something, that is for the purposes of bringing people here. Why come to Pax when you can wait at a gate in Trammel and Pax will come to you? I'm not complaining about anything, just making suggestions."

I explained to John that a few people from PaxLair usually attend the Red Wolf Event, after the meeting. We do like to promote community in other places.

"Yes and that is great," replied John, "but we also should expect the same respect from other groups. We should put pressure on them to attend pax stuff also. Hey, we came to your boatrace, you should come to our horserace." I explained that some of the Red Wolf people had attended events in PaxLair, but we do not hold events as often as the Red Wolf, but perhaps we should?

"I think steps are being taken," John said, "but I think we can all do a better job, including me."

Mayor Minsk added, "I think we should, but we lack those people who would do such events. And the same people should not always be the ones doing it."

"I think you are mistaken," John said. "We would have more, if they felt like they were part of the community. ATD is happy to do events at anytime in DW or PAX. Has there been an outreach to other groups to help?"

"Perhaps we should hold an event in Dragon's Watch?" suggested Mayor Minsk.

"It doesn't have to be in DW," explained John. "Just getting more people involved. Some people wait to be asked."

John continued, by saying, "Hey Joe, will you run an event on Tuesday? Hmm... sure. Then Joe runs it and feels important. Then he volunteers to events next time and comes up with his own ideas."

Poetry and Spinning Contests

Mayor Minsk suggested that each week, someone at the town meeting read a poem for cultural enlightenment. Many found this idea interesting, so look for it to be added to future meetings, if time permits. John McBain suggested that PaxLair and Dragon's Watch sponser the first ever, "Spinning Contest". John demonstrated how to spin, and the rules for the "Spinning Contest". While amused, most of us agreed that it was a good idea.

Ending

I asked Rebecca to keep us updated on the Nidaros happenings, and told John McBain that his ideas would be noted for the Mayor and Council's consideration. A ghost appeared, wailing about ancient history, and bringing vengeance upon certain people, including the Mayor. DoomFyre vowed that we would guard the Mayor as usual. Many "Aye's" were heard around the room. The meeting was adjourned and gates were opened to the Red Wolf Cafe for the Triathalon event.

Red Wolf Cafe Triathalon

The Triathalon began with a foot race beginning, at the Skara Brae docks, on the mainland. The footrace ended at the Red Wolf Cafe, where the participants had their mounts waiting, except for DoomFyre, who had a very good lead, until then. The second part of the race was on mounts, from the Red Wolf Cafe, to the docks in Vesper. At the Vesper docks, each participant put a boat in the water and had to sail to Moonglow.

As the race progressed, Anton was gating the spectators around to different points, so we could cheer for our favorite participants, and see who was leading the race. As we waited upon the Moonglow docks for the winners to arrive, Anton noted that at the last checkpoint, Neo was leading, followed by Revenge, and Jon, who had a bit of a problem with his boat stalling, and then Kazaba.

DoomFyre asked, "Will creatures be following them in, as before?" Rogue noted that the harbor is full of sea serpents and water elementals. Anton said that Neo had a good head start,... but at sea, anything can happen. Tancred said that in a tight race, it is not unusual for the leading four participants to switch places. So, we waited anxiously for the first arrivals upon the Moonglow docks. DoomFyre spotted the first arrival and yelled out, "Neo!" It was followed by shouts of "Neo!" from Anton, Braden Mason, and a mild expletive from Rogue. Many cheered for Neo, and worried about him keeling over before he could dock, due to the poison running through his body. "Looks like Neo is going to die trying," noted Anton.

We waited for the other arrivals, then headed back to the Red Wolf Cafe for prizes to be awarded to the winners.

Third Place Prize of 10,000 gold: Revenge
Second Place Prize of 25,000 gold: Kazaba
First Place Prize of 50,000 gold: Neo of Lothlore

Congratulations to all the winners!
