Seer Sannio Celebrates Twelfth Anniversary!

Seer Sannio's Anniversary

Late Tuesday night, Seer Sannio arrived in PaxLair. Opening the doors of the Chaos Tower, I invited him inside and warned him of the murderous attacks upon the towns this eve. Chuckling to himself, Seer Sannio replied, "When murderers come about, I like to slink away. I was at Corwyn earlier, in fact. I saw some unscrupulous types and left before they saw me. I saw some fallen gear on the ground, and some blood." He shuddered at the mention of blood.

When I expressed an interest in interviewing these murderers, Seer Sannio asked, "Oh? What is the theme of the interview? Would they have allowed the interview, do you think?" I replied that they most likely would not allow me to interview them, but I wanted to see what they had to say for themselves. We went on to discuss the importance of information and understanding, in communication.

Offering Seer Sannio a seat, I asked if he was enjoying the evening. He replied, "Yes, it's a nice quiet evening for me. It's a fine way to celebrate my twelfth year in my Robe." Upon hearing this, I asked to interview him and he was gracious enough to answer my questions, beginning with his name

"My name is Sannio. I am a Seer, and this is my anniversary, as such. Twelve short years, I've worn this Robe." I introduced myself and lamented the fact that we had no party ready in his honor. He laughed and said, "No party met me when I began my constitutionals. I need none for me to continue. No need to make a fuss!"

Seer Sannio said he had fared well these past twelve years. We spoke of memories and old friends. "People come, and people go. Memory lasts, until we let it fade. Some things we should never forget, however. Such as a good recipe for making cookies," he said, licking his lips. I told him the words fade and memory reminded me of a book in the library, a book about Daemeon.

He nodded and said, "He was a Seer. He gave his life in the service of the people. He may not be spoken of often, but always it is in reverence, by those who care for others. My career has been less noteworthy," he laughed.

I asked what had been the highlight of the last twelve years for him. He paused a moment to consider the question, then replied, "Hm. I might have to have some time to think on that one. Perhaps we could get back to that one?" Just as I agreed, he added, "Actually, no...I know. It sort of spins the question around, but it's truth, from my mouth and heart. The highlight is the opportunity to pursue my career as a Seer with the people I spend my time with, as a Seer. 'Tis true. Seer Kristos, Seer Moebius, all the others in Green. I would not be who I am, were I not guided by their beneficent influences," he grinned widely.

When I asked what was the funniest thing that had happened to him in the past twelve years, he said, "There is a little girl I have met. I wish I could remember her name." Smacking himself on the forehead, he continued, "Trying to think...she was with her daddy. It was here in PaxLair, I believe. I can't recall. No doubt she'll be cross with me when next we meet!" I asked what was funny about his encounter with this child and he replied, "She was just funny, in her manner and demeanor. She made me laugh. Children in the world make me smile. I see so few, often meeting heads of states or great warriors. Legitimate or otherwise." He chuckled at this last statement.

"Can you don another color of robe, if you wish?" I asked. Lacing his hands in his lap, he answered, "Why would I wish? Green is a perfect color! It can fill the role of "neutral" color, being center of the spectrum. It's the color of nature. The color of creativity. It's "hot" if the surrounding colors allow. Or it could be a "cold" color as well. It's so versatile I could bust!" Here, he laughed at himself and added, "Truly, it is my favorite color. Would I have been given any choice, I would have chosen green. This is my heart."

I asked if he had ever heard of Hierophants. "Only as a generic phrase. Are they some group that's been hiding from me?" he asked. When I hesitated, he leaned forward in interest and said, "Quickly, now, tell me all you know!" I assured him it was just rumors I was investigating. "Oh, well, I'm sorry then. I have no news for thee at this time...as they say."

The next question, Have you ever met the Oracle of the Forest? "That sounds vaguely familiar...but I'd hesitate to venture any statements," he winked.

"What can you tell me of Chaos?" I asked. He paused, then answered, "Some consider it the opposite of Order. It's a philosophy, well, a name applied to Lord Blackthorn's philosphies. At the core of Chaos is responsibility for oneself and one's actions. Order helps define actions, especially of a social structure. Balance provides elements of both, and outside influences. Balance is said by some, to be closer to nature. Somewhere between civilization and anarchy is Balance."

Taking a deep breath, I asked "Would you go so far as to say that, the Felucca side is Chaos, Trammel is Order and Balance is somewhere in between?" He considered it a moment before replying, "Well, as these are places, I would have to say "no". Chaos, Order, Balance...these are terms which Man applies to social and personal choices and actions. Felucca and Trammel, in and of themselves, consider not these things. And if Man was removed from both facets, what would you apply then? It is perhaps a variant on the old adage... "If a tree falls in a forest, and no one is there to hear it, does it make a sound?"

I said that the rules still remain, even without man, and both facets are different. In answer to his old adage question, I said that logic declares that it does make a sound. He responded, "The rules are more social than anything. Man's rules. British's rules. Minax's rules. Do the hinds care of these rules? Emotion could care less if it did. Do the orcs? Do these chairs?"

"The orcs do," I interjected. This reminded me of a story I had heard, which I quickly relayed to him, saying this story made me wonder if orcs were intelligent and could be made into allies, or friends. Seer Sannio said, "Some may try. Some may succeed. There is a lot of "bad blood" between orcs and man. There are orcs that live nearby. What of the Orc Chancellor?"

The Orc Chancellor had to retire when his War God called him home, I explained. "Still...did he not have some sense? He must have...he retired!" Seer Sannio chuckled.

"He had much sense. I am stunned at how smart that one was. He kind of scared me," I answered.

"He amused me. I think we bonded," said Seer Sannio, with a grin.

My next question: What was your most favortie quest? "I really haven't been on many. I do like hearing about those with a bizarre twist." We were interrupted by the arrival of Falcor Trist, leader of the Knights. After introductions were made, Seer Sanio smiled and said, "I'm being interviewed!"

I broke off the interview, since Falcor Trist wanted to discuss the orc attacks with the Seer. "Sir. may I ask of the orcs? The knights have put much investigation into it. We were attacked several times in the last few weeks."

"Which orcs were those?" asked Seer Sannio. "There have been several orc attacks lately. The mud covered orcs?"

"Nay," Falcor replied, "A new clan, based out of the same fort, to the east."

"I shall have to seek more information about them," said Sannio. "Anything I gave you now would be pure speculation. There seems to have been some population explosions around the world, on both facets. Although, as I said, there are many orc tribes rising up lately."

Falcor nodded and said, "Hmm. That would explain the massing at the cove fort."

"These new orcs seem to be highly organized in their numbers," Seer Sannio added.

"So, you think there will be more orc attacks?" Falcor asked.

"It's likely," replied Seer Sannio. "I could not hazard a guess as to when, tho."

I brought out some cakes to celebrate Seer Sannio's twelfth anniversary. I asked him about his most embarassing moment. "There have been some appointments I missed, but only a few," he answered. "There have been some times when I wandered into a place when I should not have. My most embarassing moment once I put on this Robe. Someone gave me a horse. Not being a very competent rider, the horse got out from under me. It ran around in zig-zags, and I could barely hold on. This was in Aryslan, and there were many people around. When the horse was done throwing me this way and that, I fell off and gave the reins back to the original master. I could barely hold myself steady!" he laughed. "It's funny now, but I was sick for quite a time back then."

We finished eating the cakes and Seer Sannio said he must depart, as the hour was late. We agreed and making our farewells, went our separate ways.
