Weekly Meeting
February 28, 2001

by Winmere, February 28, 2001

There were many old and familiar faces attending this meeting, like Johari, Asland, Jasper, and Zane. After experiencing a few sound problems, Asland and Monk offered to get some communication crystals. Mayor Don Martin placed the crystals and the meeting proceeded. Topics discussed at this week's meeting was whether the Town Council Meetings should be made public or not and Falcor announced the reformation of the Knights under his leadership. Recruitment and battle supplies will take the primary focus, for now.

Don Martin - Welcome to the 2nd PaxLair Inter-City Meeting of the new administration. I am Mayor Don Martin de Leon. These meetings are important because it helps the Council understand your feelings. Please allow the floor to recognize you before speaking. The council would like your input on making the Council meetings public. And if so, what night would be good?

Govannon Mac Lyr - I fear public council meeetings would not be a wise idea. It takes a small closed group to get things running, or else many times it will just end up in arguments. I fear that public council meetings, while a noble idea, in reality would lead only towards less getting actually accomplished. A small group voted in, and working privately, is much more efficient. Public meetings often lead to long drawn out arguments and too little gets accomplished.

CowMaster - I have nothing against public council meetings. However, if we do have public council meetings, the public should be there to only observe. The public may say their opinion at Wednesdays meeting, however the council should work with itself. The public can give its input at the regular public meetings. As Govannon said, if there is a large amount of people there, then there will most likely be alot of arguments and not alot of efficency. I also think we should post the council meetings on the boards and ask for the public's opinions. But we must remember that we are not a Democracy and the citizens opinions do not directly dictate what will happen. Thank you.

Beleg Cuithalion - A set a genda would help. I have a suggestion, follwing what Cow said, the public should come as observers to view the council conduct business. If a member of the puiblic wishes to have a matter discussed as council business, he or she should put a request in to the council to be iuncluded on the agenda. Have a deadline say of 24 hrs real time for such requests. At the end of the meeting have 15 minutes for the public to address the council, 1 minute per person.

CowMaster - Great Idea, Beleg. However, I have a problem with it. I do not belive one minute is enough time to hear the publics opinion. That is why I belive either two seperate meetings or the message boards would be the best way to go. I really like the idea though. Perhaps we should do that with regular meetings.

Govannon Mac Lyr - I have an alternate idea. I would propose this, private council meetings, with a transcript posted afterwards on the message boards. That way the public has access to what went down, but wil not disrupt meetings, as I guarantee would happen. Public council meetings are a surefire way to building resentment among people who dont feel they had a fair share of time to argue a point and will not like to wait til the wednesday meeting to do so.

CowMaster said he would like to hear the Mayor's comments upon this. Mayor Don Martin replied, "Of course you would," and then called Falor Trist to the floor to speak about his current endeavors.

Falcor speaks about the Knights

Falcor Trist - The Knights are recruiting. Already many people have showed much interest. I have a command group formed, but need people to fill teams, so look for any young and send them my way. It is one in many step to bring life back tro Pax. Any questions?

Govannon stated that he might have some people for Falcor to recruit. He asked that Falcor meet with him later this week. Falcor mentioned that the Knights would need supplies and merchants. Winmere said she had promised them a keg of Greater Heal. Audrey Brooks said she had a Keg of Greater Heal already made and after the meeting, she delivered the keg to the Knight's Tower. Brother Derlic said the Abbey can offer what may be needed in the way of potions. Beleg said he comes across a lot of useful armor in his travels and battles, which he normally leaves behind, but thought the Knights might find a use for it. Beleg also suggested setting up a donation chest for such items and Falcor said it would be done. Falcor asked that those who wished to help, meet him in the Saloon, after the meeting.

Brother Derlic - In concerning the prior issue of public town meetings. I like the idea of two meetings...one council...one public. I believe that a Councilmember should hold the Public Meeting. This person will have to be skilled in the ability to handle a raving mob, the kind that is most likely to murder each other and whatnot. Likewise, I think that trancripts of the prior town meeting should be made available and discussed in the public meeting, so that the public can hold issues that can be brought up in the next town meeting, by the prior aforementioned councilmemeber holding the public meeting. That way, the public do have a voice, or at least an opinion and by what I see right now, when the public is ignored, even a kingdom cannot exist without people, and neither can Paxlair. I think the idea of public meetings....might help in this area. Hmm?...oh...just thinnking aloud. Actually...I have a really nasty question... What Councilmember would wish to hold the Public Meeting, hmm?

Rama - Vegeta would.
Brother Derlic - Ah...good, good...I hope he brings guards.
Rama - Why is that?
Brother Derlic - I remember meetings long ago... my...they were messy.

At this point, Mayor Don Martin closed the meeting in order to get to his next appointments. Others dispersed to meet with Falcor about the reformation of the Knights, or to have other private meetings.
