Vegeta's Invitation

CowMaster presided over this week's meeting. Vegeta opened by inviting everyone to visit the Elfwood Tavern, once the meeting ended

Beleg speaks

Beleg Cuithalion - I ask if anyone is interested in a trip to Khaldun sometime. If so, I'd like to organize a trip there. I will post a message on our board.

A few people seemed interested in a trip to Khaldun. Beleg introduced a man named Carlos the Groom and informed the group that Carlos is in a bit of a fix. Beleg asked Carlos to take the floor and explain.

Carlos explains his problem

Carlos - I am... Carlos. She disappeared over a year ago. Three days before we were to be wed. I have heard many rumors, and have followed them all. I was just in Magencia, where she was seen with the Council of mages. They said she was... doing favors for gold. Fortunately I saw this Elaine... and it was her. I left quite sad and wandered here. Somehow, I heard she was takin by pirates I think she was kidnapped. We have been together even before our families arranged for our marriage. We were excited and happy that they planned this because they did not know of our secret love. If you see her... please, please... tell her to come home. Thank you.

Many of those present found this a sad tale of lost love. They said they would try to help Carlos find Elaine and made other suggestions about how to go about finding her.

Enge Fotze -I wish to know if there are currently any murderers friendly to the city of Paxlair? Are there any murderers currently living in Paxlair?

A few commented that there are some friendly murderers to be found in PaxLair. No one revealed if any of them are living in PaxLair.

Govannon asks for help

Govannon Mac Lyr - Aye, I've a request...as some o' ye may, or may not know I've recently become a father. The wraiths, enemies to Mythndale and all that lives tried to steal the souls of my unborn babies. Myself and my Lord, Konodr, were able to hold them off long enough for Lady Crystal to get Cherokee and the babies to safety. I fell as I saw the portal home close behind them, thinking them safe. They were not. Upon arrival in Mythndale the banshee which has haunted the town, tore the soul from my newborn daughter. Many have tried to banish this spirit, to no avail. The Clan of Vampires has offered their help, but I deem the price too high. So i ask all assembled now, if any have any knowledge of the spirit realm, please... please seek me out. We've only one cycle of the moon til her soul is lost forever. Now just yesterday my daughter's body was taken from us. We hope, out of fear, for safekeeping. I know not.

When Beleg asked who took the child, Govannon growled the name, "Carlos Bane. I pray he hopes to keep the child safe, and hidden." Govannon verified that with Vienne gone, the Wraiths have freed Uuban and he is now at their head. Beleg suggested questioning one of the Caitiff members who was present at the meeting, while Jaynen suggested searching the wilds of Yew forest for their old headquarters.

Handy Man once again brought up issues from last week's meeting, like how to draw more people into the city, lowering merchant prices, building a central merchant center, maintaining more protection for the inhabitants and battling murderers and brigands.

Handy Man talks about vendor center

Handy Man - May I speak now please. At the last meeting, we discussed making one shop where you could go to get ALL your wares! If we had one shop would it be easier to defend? And what about protection for the town?

A few were shocked at the mention of lowering prices and Atlas, said prices in PaxLair were already excellent, at least at the shop he frequents. Jaynen thought lower merchant prices would draw commerce, while many others argued against a central merchant center, since it might also attract more thieves and villanous scum. Green Dragon stated that protection for the town has always been a big issue that requires participation and self sacrifice. Beleg said that we must bring back the guards.

Jaynen - Well as former Captain of the Guard I think I can share some insight here. I toiled long in the arts of killing men not monsters. First of all Town protection has always been the most visible issue along with population. If You increase traffic through vendors we will grow, but there will always be a percentage of bad people, they will become more numerous as the good people become more numerous. As it stands now Pax is a confusing place to shop due to the scattered Merchants, but for the character and atmosphere we need more then one shop.

If we fight they will come back day and night. They want a challenge. If we fight them we become their toy. As a guard you die numerous times a day. You are the mouse for the cat to come toy with. We had mages Archers and Warriors as guards. Please let me finish as someone who has experience in this job.

We were far more effective at ridding ourselves of bad people by using rogue characters. Endorphin, my co captain, and I would wreak havoc with rogues. He was also a bard and would provoke on them for annoyance. My naked rogue had nothing to offer them and no items to lose. Mental deception and annoyance to their goals for coming here is far more effective. Stealing from them, making them think you are perma grey so they take a count, but the deadly poison on his dagger and his quick hands would make them leave.

Pounding doesnt work. You kill them, they get friends and come back. This is what they live for. It does work much better then sacrificin yourself daily to their hordes. Hunting them in stat loss is good too. No, we need to friend more people so they can ban them. We need "carebears" to make their stay less pleasant. And we need to hunt them like dogs in their hole. They hate fighting near their homes.

A very lively discussion ensued over these, and many other ideas. Most found themselves agreeing in whole, or in part, to some of the proposed actions. Ideas were flowing like quicksilver and I am sure I missed a few, but the basic consensus was that carebears and guards are needed.

Cowmaster talks of new Mayor

CowMaster - I would like to announce, the new Paxlair Mayor has been chosen! However, he or she will not be revealed until the 16th - the swearing in. We cannot announce who until the 16th., 9PM on the Mage tower.

Winfield talks about Ceremony for new Mayor

Winfield - It is good to be back for a time, between fishing trips. The Council has asked me to plan the ceremony for the new Mayor. I will do this with all my efforts. The new mayor knows who he or she is already. Yet can not be announced because certain rituals must be undertaken by the new mayor in preparation. Just as I was prepared over time to lead here, so will the new mayor. If the new mayor succeeds in such things, he will be appointed by the council. The rituals are difficult, and private. (A bolt of lightning struck and the Gatekeeper appeared.) A friend will aid us in these rituals for the new mayor and such preparations will be revealed somewhat at the ceremony. Back now, Gatekeeper, until we are prepared for you. Thank you all and see you at least on the 16th.

The announcement of a new Mayor coming soon, brought cheers and lots of questions. CowMaster adjourned the meeting and many people headed to the Elfwood Tavern for refreshments and entertainment.
